Is Kaspersky Total Security still safe to use?

What is the new name for Kaspersky Total Security?

Kaspersky Total Security (new name). Is it a good idea to use a free antivirus? Yes, of course you can use a free antivirus. It will protect your computer and do its job well. The only problem is that a free antivirus will not provide you with the full service which a paid antivirus offers. Free Antivirus products from the most known manufacturers are generally very good. Their coverage, performance, and their speed of updates are all very good. However, when you get a virus, the free antivirus will tell you that everything is fine and the virus is gone. Sometimes a free antivirus is good enough for you. Other times it will be too little, other times it is too much. A free antivirus from a major manufacturer may not be that bad, but a third party free antivirus might be okay. It's better to buy a free antivirus than not to get a free antivirus.

Can I use AVG on my Kaspersky? No. We don't recommend using AVG antivirus for Kaspersky protection. If you would like to use AVG on your computer, then go for a full Kaspersky and not a "free" Kaspersky.

Is Kaspersky Total Security still safe to use?

I use two antivirus programs.

AV-Test gives Kaspersky Total Security an overall rating of 86 out of 100, which is a decent grade for any protection program. Anecdotally, I don't encounter many problems and often recommend my clients use this or another brand, because Kaspersky is one of the few programs that consistently does not have problems. The only time it did something weird was when a family member asked if I can help her access her dad's email. He created an alias email account for her; I was able to get the email from Gmail, but not from Kaspersky. There was also a problem when I moved my laptop to a different part of the country, and I got all sorts of strange errors. I couldn't access my email, so I created a new account on my new phone.

In fact, Kaspersky has been giving me good performance in the past. (I haven't looked at Symantec lately, but I think Symantec has changed management since its purchase by Intel, which may have changed the program.) When Kaspersky was still Avast, I didn't like it because I saw how bad it was at detecting malware. Since Avast was bought by Symantec, it hasn't been terrible; however, its performance has been inconsistent.

Overall, Total Security 2025 does an adequate job of protecting me, although it does miss some things. Its coverage is decent; even after installing the more thorough feature upgrades, it is still able to detect 99.9% of active malware that number isn't great. (The better Kaspersky has a far superior detection rate.

Some programs cost significantly less. While these are not perfect programs, they have saved me many times when other anti-virus programs didn't find malware. However, many times these programs failed to flag malicious files as suspicious, which I believe is a mistake. Many anti-virus programs don't identify the presence of malware and instead simply delete it and leave the system vulnerable.
