Can you get prime student if you're not a student?

I recently received a call from a recruiter asking if I was still a student, and whether I wanted to work for a company that does not pay my salary.

This is the first time I've ever been asked this question by a recruiter, and I'm not sure what to do. Do I just say yes, and then they'll assume that I'm not a student? Should I say no and risk being labelled as a liar? Or is it something that doesn't matter much anyway?

It's not a lie, because it's not a lie to have a job. You could have a part-time job and still be a student, but I wouldn't call that lying. It's just that people tend to want to look at degrees and make assumptions. I know I did.

You did nothing wrong by having a job. People assume that if you're not a student, you must be able to afford school, so they assume that you don't need a job. Just because you had a job doesn't mean that you don't need a degree. In fact, I'd consider it a good sign that you were able to have a job while in school. I didn't have a job until after I graduated.

You don't want to lie, but you also don't want to sound like an idiot. If you just say "yes, I'm a student" and then they ask you why you don't have a degree, then you can just tell them that you dropped out before you finished your degree.

When I was a student, I had a part-time job, and I never told anyone. People would ask me why I didn't finish my degree and I would tell them I quit. I think it's a good idea to do that. It's not lying or anything.
