A bit of a rant, and some questions on on a laptop.

So I bought a new laptop with a GTX1060 to replace my old 10 year old Acer laptop with an i3 CPU and an Nvidia 750M. I already use VPN and Tor for banking and browsing, and all is working fine. But I would like to be able to play Steam games without being blocked by the VPN/Tor. So when I use ExpressVPN on the laptop (or any other VPN) it seems I am unable to play Steam games at all (even in offline mode). I have tried the instructions on the official site, but they don't work. Also my PC isn't always connected to the internet, and I can't afford to pay for a 3rd party VPN service every time I want to play a game. So how do I make sure that Steam games run smoothly, and that I am not being blocked by VPN/Tor

For most of the big games, it is not a problem. For example, if you go to you will see that for most of the big games, Steam lists a server. So you can connect to that and you will be able to play.

You use a VPN/Tor connection. Using a native Steam server: For a few games (mostly older ones), it is not a problem. For example, the only issue is Assassin's Creed 1 and 2, where there is no native Steam server.

In that case, you need to either pay for a 3rd party VPN (if you don't have a good enough connection) or use a native Steam server, which is what I recommend. With native Steam servers, you can use VPN and Tor at the same time (they work great together), but you need to manually configure them. The way to do it is using this Steam guide.
