Hi, I'm getting a problem with SMTP.

Whenever I try to send mail through Gmail, I always get the following error message: 550-5.7.1 The email account xxx@gmail.com is temporarily disabled. Please try again later.1

I've checked every option that I can find in Google's Help pages, but nothing has worked. The strange thing is that I've never had this issue before, but I've recently installed a program called Gmail notifier which might have made a mess of things? I'd be grateful for any suggestions.

Thanks. Chris. That error message you received is just a warning. It's nothing to worry about. The real problem is that the account is disabled and you don't have access to it. In order to resolve this problem, you need to sign in to the disabled account. You can do this by clicking on the "Sign In" link on the bottom left of the page. Once you sign in to the account, you will be able to send mail from your email account as normal.

I've tried that, and I've tried changing my password and logging in again, but I still get the same message. I can send mail from other accounts, so it's not a server problem. Also, I'm getting this message even though I'm using my laptop and not my desktop computer.

I also have a Mail.app account with the same username/email but I never send messages via SMTP using this. I always receive and send messages through the web interface.

Now I opened the mail client on my desktop and created a new account with the same email address and I didn't even get an error message. Even if I send mail from the terminal using the sendmail command, I still receive mail in my old account.

I didn't use the account to do anything at all in days before it suddenly started working, so I really can't understand what happened. I noticed something strange in my Gmail settings. If I check 'Send mail as' then it shows the old name of my Mac, as it is the sender name of my old account.
