YouTube is also known for their YouTube Red service, which offers the ability to purchase movies and TV shows, as well as many other things.

Will Disney return to Netflix?

A few days ago, the Los Angeles Times' Media Decoder reported that Disney was looking to explore options with Netflix after losing out on the chance to be the exclusive distributor of Disney's own streaming service. Since this report, however, the company has remained silent on the subject of Netflix. Disney did send the following statement to Deadline today, confirming that it is still interested in distributing its own streaming service to Netflix users, but that no official announcements are planned for the foreseeable future: While we have had interest from Netflix about distributing our own content, no formal agreement has been reached and we do not have plans for any public announcements at this time. It seems unlikely that Disney would even go through the trouble of exploring whether or not a streaming service of their own could work with Netflix if they were already planning on doing so. It makes more sense to assume that Disney is only exploring the option in order to hold out until they can find another outlet for distributing their content.

Disney has not been without a major streaming service before. In 2025, the company announced its own direct-to-consumer service called DisneyLife that included both movies and television content. The service launched on October 26, 2025 and became available for free to all Netflix subscribers on November 6th of the same year. DisneyLife shut down in 2025, however, after just over a year and was discontinued entirely in 2025.

This is not the first time Disney has considered opening up its own streaming service, however. The company has experimented with an ad-supported online service in the past called Disney Junior Playhouse which provided children's programming, including a number of animated series, along with some live action content. Disney Junior Playhouse was announced as a part of Disney's streaming service in 2025, however, it has not been heard from since.
