Hey everyone, I've been having the worst time trying to find a way to turn off my proxy on my iphone. I know that other people have been having the same problem, but most of what I've found from other people has been wrong, or not helpful.

My problem is that my parents keep trying to track where I'm going online through my IP address. When I surf the web, I run through Verizon's proxy, but I have been told that this is something I can turn off, because it's not my IP address.

I looked all over the OSX netowkr/network preferences, but I can't find it. I even googled it, and the results I got were irrelevant.

Can anyone tell me how this is done? I'd really appreciate it. Thanks.

The solution is to use a proxy server that is not in your home. Just because your home has internet service does not mean that it is safe.

It is a good idea to use a basic firewall that monitors incoming and outgoing web traffic. The Mac firewall comes with OSX.

I use privoxy in a Debian box at home. If you want to be a little more fancy, use squid. It is very easy to install.

The biggest problem is that people will try to use a VPN because their current ISP is not safe. When it comes to privacy, the ISPs leak small amounts of information.

I recommend using the last option. Shorewall will start the new tor network for you. You can set up the connection as a transparent bridge.
