Is VPN included in Norton?

Is Norton Free VPN any good?

I have had a couple of bad experiences with using free VPN services, and I am trying to avoid this in the future.

What I want to know is: ? I have read some pretty mixed reviews on this forum, and I'm looking for answer. Thanks. M

11-28-2011, 10:50 PM. Norton Free VPN is no good. It's free but there are so many servers that you need to wait for 3 minutes for a server to pop up. Also I can't log into it either and it keeps going to blocked site.

I have a router running DD-WRT with openvpn preinstalled, but it has a firewall feature that's supposed to block all incoming connections. Does this mean that it is not possible to use a free VPN service to access the internet?

Does anyone have any experience with PIA? I just looked at their setup page and it seems it is the same setup as I had with the one I used before, but I am really worried about getting a virus. I also see that the VPN Service that I used before has a free trial. I will be getting a credit card soon, and I don't want to sign up for a service before I am sure I am going to like it. Is there a free trial?

11-28-2011, 10:58 PM. OpenVPN is a good free VPN service and it works well. I think I got my router setup correctly by following this guide: If you set up your router to allow incoming connections it should work with a free VPN service. PIA is my favorite free VPN service.

Yes, Norton does have VPN built in.

For the price, though, it would better to spend the money on the subscription version of their anti-virus or get security software which includes a VPN client and all of the protection of the subscription.

How do I get to know what kind of IP I am having? You can go to 'Your PC information' tab in Norton Internet Security. Click on the 'IP information' under settings. There you will get your IP details. How do I check for Trojan & Viruses in my PC? If you are using Windows XP, you can check virus scanning and Trojans in your Control Panel under 'Programs' -> Microsoft Updates -> Windows Update (Windows Update) -> Windows Security Tab. If you are using Windows Vista or above, its at 'Control Panel' -> 'Uninstall a program' and select the third item 'Remove selected updates'.

Can I use my own name rather than a fake password? You can create one free email address and add it into Norton's email login area. You can then easily login by setting your Norton Account into your mail box. There's a little help section at 'Start Button' -> Settings -> 'Help & Maintenance' -> "Get connected using my name". Another option is to create a new profile with a new fake password, log in, change the password then switch back to the old one and save the settings under the same profile name. Once saved, restart Norton and continue browsing.

What's the difference between internet security and firewall? With the internet security, you will usually have a firewall too, but you need to do one yourself. The firewall does not protect you against viruses, spyware or worms; this is something you get with an internet security program. The security scanner does, that's why you need both of them. An internet security program will have it's own firewall as well, along with parental controls, etc. A firewall protects the network that the internet security controls access to. It only protects against external attacks on your PC. A firewall will make internet security more secure.

What's "Parental Control" and how do I use it? With this feature you can set Norton's settings to prevent any child from accessing your favourite sites, emails, games, or anything else.
