It's funny that you mention Sprint. Mine also uses Sprint 4G LTE but it's been working perfectly all along without any issues when I use a VPN. Maybe you're getting "LTE 4G" as an option in the VPN app? I had to do a factory reset of my phone, so maybe that caused an issue.
