Is Orbot available for iOS?

Is there a Tor Browser for iOS?

There is the iPhone, but it isn't very secure.

If an iPhone user wants privacy, they will need to use a browser built on top of something like Orbot. This Tor bridge then sends the requests for the hidden service to an exit relay instead.

I don't care for my phone in this way. It is too easy to compromise with it, and I feel that it is a privacy violation. I use a computer or smartwatch that always get me where I am going, and if I want to browse the darknet I use the browser on my laptop.

IOS only and a jailbroken device is what is needed. Is there an iOS browser? No. Is there an iOS tor browser? Yes, one exists. It is called JB browser.

It's a nice little app and does work well. Unfortunately, it doesn't handle HTTP traffic over Tor correctly. The only way to access sites over Tor is to either start up a full node on a separate computer (over SSH) or use one of the official bridges in the iOS list above. There really should be an OS-wide tor browser and not one of these if you are using Android, so am I kind of approach.

However, the developer states that he plans to fix this in a later release. How do you make JB Browser run over Tor? Here is what you do: Open for the hidden services running on your server. For example: It will take you to jbrowse for iOS, and as soon as you have visited the hidden service once, this hidden server will work just like a normal tor relay. If you want to open a page in your browser like: go to the hidden site and hit the button on jbrowse that says Go2. You can't visit the regular http site, but the Tor hidden site should work just like normal.

The developer doesn't expect many people to use JB Browser as most browsers can already handle the hidden service stuff.

Is it safe to use Tor on an Iphone?

(I have the most recent release that works with iOS 5.)
I know it is supposed to be safe from the government but I wonder if the NSA/FBI/etc are able to use their methods of tracking us on our iPhones, to track us on tor. This scares me. In the recent past years people have been caught or arrested simply for their conversations or chats on their iPhones and they don't even had warrants. The government have all we need, all we need to do is listen to our iPhones.

I think Apple makes the "most recent version" of the ios not only on the phone, but also in the devices of Apple TVs etc. I am currently using the app on my Iphone and it's working fine, but is it safe to say that the app will work like a normal phone? (if the NSA is capable of listening on phones). Anyhow, how come you can download the new version using iTunes Store, or using some official website and your Iphone will update the software automatically when the new version is available? It depends how they've got Apple-locked-down. Apple could make the "back-door" and then any other hacker can too so it makes no difference. We just have to assume that it doesn't happen.

If it does, Apple and the carriers could probably do something to stop it though. I wonder if it could be possible if the NSA gets involved in developing the iPhone. We all know that they have many ways of spying on people, but could they possibly create their own "back door", so that they can be the only ones that have access to the "back door".

If you would like to help keep this site up and running, you may donate via Paypal to smc@iwipaypal.com, or via Google: use keyword smc. Find more here - Thanks, Jimmy

What is the best Tor alternative for iOS?

For those of you who are using Tor for the first time, what are your thoughts on the app?

Or are there any other apps or projects that you use? If you have experience using it, what do you recommend? It seems to me that Tor needs a bit of polishing, but I'm still very happy with the experience. Thanks in advance! Tor was originally developed for use by people outside of the US who may want to visit places in the US that don't have an official exit node based on the Tor Project's Exit List. Although many sites including Facebook have exit nodes, their IPs can easily be traced back to the US. In the past, if a visitor in the US wanted to visit a particular website, they would simply need to request a SOCKS proxy at their network provider. This is no longer necessary because most networks support the SOCKS5 protocol which provides a full end-to-end encrypted and anonymous connection for users.

There are other benefits to using a network which provides an onion address which cannot be traced back to its origin. The IP address of a visitor can be seen as an identifier. By having an onion address, the site operator cannot see which visitors are from which part of the world and they can also set a cookie to allow users to anonymously sign up to their site. A user in the US cannot access a site operated by a user in Poland or a user in Canada cannot access a site operated by a user in Spain. The data of the person accessing a website can never be traced back to the site's owner.

It's also possible to use Tor to secure communications such as sending anonymous emails. Tor can help ensure that the content of an email cannot be viewed by a person who intercepts the communication. It can also help to avoid being spied on while using the web or while making voice calls. Tor can also be used to bypass restrictions put in place by service providers.

If you have not previously used Tor or if you are just looking for an alternative to the default browser provided by iOS, the following iOS apps may be a good place to start: I believe that these apps are all compatible with OS 10.7.5 and above. It's also important to mention that the iOS App Store requires that the developer register a legal company and obtain a certificate before the app is published.

Is Orbot available for iOS?

I'm reading about a new software project, Orbot, on the front page of Hacker News.

From what I understand, the goal of Orbot is to allow iOS users to protect their private data by encrypting their web requests. It does this by acting as a proxy between the user's device and the sites they visit on the internet. The data is encrypted and sent over the Internet to Orbot and decrypted locally on the phone. It then sends those "decrypted" requests to the remote server so that no sensitive data goes over the Internet.

Can Orbot be used to secure email? Is it available for free for iOS users? The website says that Orbot is available for Android, Symbian S60, Windows Mobile, and Mac OS X. Is it also available for iOS? If not, why not? Why does an OS maker need to add this functionality to their platform? Are there any implications with Apple's business relationship with Google? - Ben VoigtSep 5 '12 at 0:03. @BenVoigt - I wouldn't know. I'm very unfamiliar with this type of technology. My question was more regarding its security and security implications, not because I have an issue with the company that developed it.

Orbot is free and open source and it's already been downloaded more than 12000 times! But it isn't available on iOS yet. Orbot doesn't support HTTPS by default, but you can compile an SSL version that works with a variety of browsers (Chrome, Dolphin, Opera Mini, UC Browser, Samsung Internet, etc). However, it is also known to work with Firefox (but not Mozilla Firefox) on older Android devices (2.3 and above). Orbot may also work with a number of other Browsers if someone else manages to make the code work in them, or even better if someone adds HTTPS support directly to the original code itself.

If you want HTTPS support (in addition to Tor support) with all Browsers, see the HowToForge guide. If you want Tor and HTTPS support with all the major Browsers, you can use the newest build of Orbot with the HTTPS version which works on Chrome 4.
