How do I setup Chrome Remote Desktop on my phone?

I was wondering if I can set up Chrome Remote Desktop on my phone?

I am looking for android app to configure a server/chrome remote desktop on my phone. I was thinking something like However, I don't want to use VNC. I think there is an API we can use to connect and login to the computer with our credentials. Is that possible? I would need a link or step-by-step instructions on how to get this working.

Thanks in advance! In my case I have successfully used the xhost command (on Debian/Ubuntu: apt-get install xhost). > Network In the network settings, change the Host Name from "host" to your machine name, change IP Address to something inside your local network and then click Apply. In the same page, in User names and passwords select your user and password and click Ok. I hope this helped you!

What is the difference between Chrome Remote Desktop extension and app?

A quick summary is that the Chrome extension is a local app which accesses the Google Chrome's local storage as a data source, while the Chrome Remote Desktop app is a remote app which does the same thing, except instead of storing data in the users's local storage, it stores data in servers operated by the remote desktop system.

As you have probably seen, both extensions/apps can share all data (even password, saved configuration etc) in common from the point where you logged into the remote system through the browser, to the point where the remote system has a copy of your session and shows your desktop, all in a transparent manner. However, there is also difference, which is what this question will help you understand: Can extension be run with privileges (eg to take remote control of any of the system accounts)? Does extension need privileged access to access the chrome.localStorage

(Note: It might be different for Chrome Remote Desktop app.)
Here are some answers to the questions: Answer to the 1st Question: Yes, you can. If you launch an extension on Chrome using sudo chrome -remote XXXXX.com -extension, it will run with sudo access. You can try this out by logging out from your system, and clicking on "About Chrome" on the chrome://inspect page, then go to the extension's page.

Answer to the 2nd Question: Yes, extension needs privileged access to the chrome.localStorage, not so for the Chrome Remote Desktop app. For example, if you go tools > developer options and check "Access the hardware clipboard", the clipboard contents are accessible by both the extension and the remote system. That's why the clipboard between the remote system and your system is synchronized transparently.

So, here is an important fact. If you don't want to give privileged access to a certain extension, the best way to avoid that extension from getting elevated privileges (with admin access), is to just remove it from the current browser. That's how I managed to avoid this extension from launching when Chrome is launched with root privileges, for example.

Is Chrome Remote Desktop Safe?

I have been using Chrome Remote Desktop with no issues for a couple of years now.

But I noticed yesterday that when I went to do a Chrome Remote Desktop, it said "Error" and the Chrome Remote Desktop was not working. I uninstalled and reinstalled the software and it is still saying "Error" and not allowing me to connect. Is this a bug with Chrome Remote Desktop or is it a security issue?

I am a Google Chrome user, not a Chrome Remote Desktop user. I have a Mac and Windows desktop. Is it possible to do a remote connection on both machines? How do I set this up? I haven't found any documentation on this.

Re: Chrome Remote Desktop Safe? Thank you for the response, I was looking for documentation as I am having this issue on two different machines (one is Mac and other is Windows) but nothing was showing up. I have not had this issue since I reinstalled the software. I hope that if it is a security issue it will resolve itself.

Your Mac or Windows system doesn't know that. To enable this, you have to add a server side component, typically running on your local network.

On Mac or Windows, you can create a local server, usually called "FreeNX", which can be installed on your network, which allows you to use the Chrome Remote Desktop protocol.
