What is an iced mocha?
To answer that question, I went on YouTube and watched a few videos to figure out how to make an iced mocha in my own kitchen.
Then I took those steps and added the final touches on the recipe that I created. This is not a sponsored post, but if you click the "Shop" button on my blog you can check out the cookbook version of this recipe for an actual grocery list!
What are the key things you need to know before making iced mochas? Do you have to use milk or can you use almond milk? The answer is, it depends. If your kids are under the age of 7, you can use almond milk. If your kids are over that age, I would recommend using cow's milk. This is because cow's milk contains some fat in it that most babies can tolerate well.
If you only have regular dairy milk, will the mocha still taste good? If you like chocolatey drinks, this isn't going to be too much of an issue for you. You may need to warm it up a little in the microwave, but it'll taste fine.
Can you drink regular coffee with this? Yes. Iced coffee is a popular drink in Europe where people have different rules about drinking coffee than we do in the US. In Europe, Iced coffee is generally allowed as long as it doesn't have dairy, sugar, or any other additives. So don't be surprised if you can find this at a specialty store near you.
What about drinking tea with this? A lot of people drink tea instead of coffee in the US. One cup of hot tea can have almost 100 calories, so I would only suggest this if your kids enjoy the taste. The best hot tea options are matcha (white tea), chai (black tea), and Earl Grey (herbal tea).
Are you going to tell me the secret ingredients for this iced mocha recipe?
Can you get a mocha iced at Starbucks?
Yes, but you'll have to be the kind of person who orders a mocha iced at Starbucks.
Starbucks has a lot of rules about its drinks, and it's not easy to mess with them all. (As you may have learned by now, "Iced Caffe Mocha" is not a drink. It is a name.) The rules on mochas vary from region to region. In our home state of Texas, for example, the drink is not a mocha unless it has been brewed with real coffee beans. The one we got at Starbucks was made with instant coffee, and had a few more steps than a regular mocha, as you can see in the slideshow.
To make your own Iced Caffe Mocha at home, you will need: A Starbucks Iced Caffe Mocha, or something similar. A large glass. Coffee, according to Starbucks' standards (coffee beans, ground coffee). Milk. Sugar. We used the store-bought iced caffe mocha from Starbucks for these photos. You could use your own iced mocha if you're comfortable making that kind of thing at home. If you're not comfortable making that kind of thing at home, you could just order a regular, non-iced mocha.
For this drink, you'll also need: A paper straw. A Starbucks-approved ice cream scoop. An ice cream maker (optional, though it is not strictly necessary). The best iced coffee you've ever had. It's possible to make this drink at home, but it is definitely easier to buy it from Starbucks. First, measure out all the ingredients. You'll need: 1/3 cup of coffee. 2 tablespoons of sugar. 1 cup of milk. Step 1: Pour the coffee into a paper straw, then seal it shut with tape. Step 2: Measure out the coffee, sugar, and milk into a large glass. Step 3: Pour the coffee, sugar, and milk into an ice cream maker and make the ice cream. This step is optional; Starbucks already makes an ice cream that matches the Starbucks Iced Caffe Mocha, but it's still fun to play around with flavors.
