How do I change my country on Netflix?
(Update: See bottom of post)
This weekend, I found myself on my couch staring at the TV and the words "Cancel Netflix" written in red as a warning. It wasn't immediately clear what the words meant until I realized that it was a message from my cable company, warning me that Netflix was causing interruptions to the cable feed. The interruption occurred every half-hour when Netflix is streaming, apparently disrupting the signal to every one of the thousands of TV channels and movie sites that run in conjunction with the service.
Since it is unclear what this problem means, we decided to look for some answers ourselves. I had to look around a bit to see how other people had been affected by this bug. After searching on Twitter, Reddit and other websites, we couldn't find many people who had actually experienced this problem. While the problem has been out there for more than two months, and the cable company said it was a recent issue on Nov. 15, I suspect that a lot of people haven't gotten around to checking into it just yet.
Why the Netflix outage? "There was an issue on our network that caused a delay of the content. No live or on-demand programming was affected," the company said in a statement. "To compensate for this, the content did not start immediately but was delayed. We are monitoring the network and working to get it back up. This will be a few hours."
That sounds like a vague explanation for something that sounds more like a problem with their broadband network. And they had no way to explain why the problem started two months ago. I decided to call the cable company to ask them about it directly.
Call the Netflix Outage: You Asked For It - In Real Time. During that call, though, the problem seemed less like a network problem and more like someone accidentally turned off the Netflix servers at the cable company's end. They blamed Netflix for the problem but didn't offer any details about what went wrong or why the site was down. Instead, they just thanked me for calling and said they'd let me know when the Netflix site came back up.
After waiting around another 45 minutes, I eventually had a response that they were going to contact Netflix. So I called Netflix.
First, I was greeted by a series of automated prompts to press one, two or three for a recorded message.

Which countries are available to me? A handful of countries, like New Zealand or Japan, do not offer access to Netflix because it cannot meet the laws of these countries. If your country doesn't appear on the list of countries offered by Netflix, you need to install a VPN and use it to get access.
How do I connect from China? For security reasons, the United States does not allow its citizens to access the Internet through VPN. Therefore, users in China and some other countries should follow two steps: Download your content and upload it to Amazon S3 (as explained in this guide). To do so, open the Cloudfront website and click Create Distribution on the top-right side of the page. Under Create a Distribution with a domain name, enter the cloud front domain name for your website (for example, amazonaws.com). From then on, access your website at the URL . On Netflix, you must download your content to S3 for security reasons. We don't know if Netflix have been blocking the streaming method used to download from the website. But you can verify the site has been blocked or not through different IP address : Open Chrome browser . Click into the bottom right hand corner until you reach Settings . When the menu pops up, click Request desktop site . That should bring you to the same screen as in the preceding step. Click on Show advanced settings . After that, click the Privacy tab . Check which country the VPN is providing data to. For example, when I'm in Canada, the VPN is sending all the traffic to Montreal, France.

Does my Netflix change if I'm in a different country?
For example, if I'm in Canada and I watch the English version, will that change my Netflix account to the English version?
If not, what's the difference between an IP address and an area code? What would happen if I moved from Toronto to Montreal and changed my IP address? What if I moved from Toronto to the US or Europe and changed my IP address? Why do people need to buy VPNs, and can't they just use these services instead of paying for a VPN? Why is this even necessary? I think it's a bad idea to rely on VPNs at all times (eg using one when playing online games) because it can be insecure. If I have my own computer, I don't use any VPN services at all, but my Internet provider is usually in a different country to where I live. That doesn't make any sense. The main point of a VPN service is to allow you to browse websites securely, which is much harder when you're connected to the Internet through a different country. Also, why would you want to trust your VPN service with something as important as your security?
I would assume that if you're connected to a VPN, all your devices would still be using the Internet through the same country as your ISP. Why does this matter? I want my video streaming to be from the US, not Canada. ? If you're streaming to a country that doesn't have a Netflix service in your own country, then yes, your account will change. I think it's a bad idea to rely on VPNs at all times (eg using one when playing online games) because it can be insecure.
