How do I get service on my Moxee mobile hotspot?

This is probably going to be a short answer as I have been having problems connecting my Moxee mobile hotspot service for quite a while and I'm not sure why.

I installed the Moxee soft reset application on my phone and now whenever I try to connect the service it says unable to find device. To fix this I had to force power off my phone and when it came back up I could then see the Moxee web interface with my account information. At this stage I can make phone calls and my internet connection works but for some reason the mobile hotspot is not working.

Why is my mobile hotspot service suddenly stopping working? It has always been working just fine. Also when I try to use the Moxee mobile hotspot service from another device, it tells me that the service I'm trying to connect is unknown. Why would that be?

My mobile hotspot service seems to be working fine. I can connect other devices just fine and also make phone calls. All of a sudden a couple of months ago, my hotspot stopped working after I connected my phone to it for the first time in a few months and have now had to reinstall it as my router will no longer show the Moxee service being connected when I try and use the mobile hotspot service.

Is it possible that it is a problem with the phone or the mobile hotspot service? If it is the phone, what exactly is going wrong? It seems to be functioning fine and all I want is to be able to connect a small number of devices, such as tablets and games consoles, and have their internet connection through my phone. For some reason now that I have forced a restart on my phone and reinstalled the application, I cannot connect to it from my phone, even if I have done a hard reset. When I connect it to my phone for the first time now it says that the service that I'm trying to connect is unknown. What might be causing this and how can I get it working again?

When I power off my phone now the mobile hotspot on the Moxee app will show and then when I restart it says that the service that I'm trying to connect is unknown. I have even forced a hard reboot on my phone to no avail.

The wireless modem (Netgear, WN834T) says that the Moxee is connected. Any ideas?

Solution: I called Netgear Tech Support for help. The Tech Support person was very helpful. He told me to start with turning power cycle to modem. That caused my wireless internet to work again. He also confirmed that the router itself is fine, as it connected directly to my modem. After the power cycle the problem was solved. When I turned off the power cycle the modem was unable to automatically connect again (because my laptop's battery was down). So I did a hard restart (shut off the computer, reset the CMOS settings and then press Power button down and up) and voila! Everything works once again. For those who do have a similar issue, this is the solution.

Hello I'm a new user here and I also have troubles connecting my Moxee Hotspot to the ISP so any suggestion is welcomed and appreciated. I had two computers connected to the moxee. My mom's computer and mine both were fine. But after a week of continuous using my mother's computer to make use of the Moxee I realized it didn't had an internet connection anymore.

I looked into the problem by making an investigation on the IP address of the moxee which showed my router IP and the moxee IP address being the same. And also looking into port 80 on the router which said my router and moxee were already connected. Also tried restarting the router and it did not helped.

Then looked into another moxee for my wife to have for another reason and it had the same issue. So now when I looked at the computer attached to the moxee it had Internet Explorer blocked, and other internet connections like Google Chrome are working. But when I clicked on the option to "connect the computer directly" it said I have the right to connect with the network which it's false, I am unable to do so because I can't find any internet source to connect the computer.

So any possible solution on how to fix this or why my mom's computer stopped having internet but mine is still working fine. Please reply if you need more info.

Thank you! :D. Yes the hotspot works. You're probably facing a firewall configuration issue. The router might be either blocking the port it needs or not accepting incoming connections on the proper port. I'll go out on a limb, and suggest it's blocking. I haven't seen any reason in the past for routers not to accept connections to ports > 1024 when not forwarding to them, though I'm an IT support tech, not a router/network specialist.

I use an Asus EEE 701 with an RTL8188CE in combination with a Linux-kernel, which has the latest WLAN stack (kernel 2.6.24). With the latest drivers from Asus (version 8.09) the device is functional up to the 5GHz band. Even dualband is functional. If I move the USB dongle to another computer or try a different cable everything works fine.

To be honest the card is cheap, doesn't come with any antenna and with two or three years time I expect some compatibility problems. But so far everything seems to work as expected and I have no problems while using it. I would therefore consider myself one of the lucky one, who got a functioning Moxee 802.11n card with the newest kernel and drivers available.

If some people have success with it - they should share their experience here. Note: I'd like to recommend to use an own wireless device (such as a P-Link Powerline network extender) instead of trying to connect a separate wifi device to your existing wireless network. @EggeT wrote in post #1:Can anyone tell us how to find out where the problem is? Does Moxee hotspot need a SIM card?

I recently bought the Moxee Hotspot and it seems that the company is very clear about the need for a SIM card, but I don't see why.

I live in Belgium and get roaming rates of 0,20 euros per hour, and 1 euro for each 3g minutes. It is the same rate as with my 3g plan on O2 with their monthly plan. So if I stay 5 hours at home I will have to pay 30 euros for just wifi use, so I understand that it is not really "free" wifi.

It seems to me that for the use of a hotspot, all you need is a wifi router (like a D-Link or similar) connected to a LAN and an internet connection. If you do not have this you can buy the device to turn your router into a hotspot. With this connection you are back at 1 euro per 3g minutes. If the hotspot is your only connection you need to pay 0,20 euros per hour.

Now I would like to find out if I am missing something here, or I am wrong, and if it is so, is there a way to make it free without needing a SIM card? Re: Do you need a SIM card for the Moxee Hotspot? I believe it needs a SIM card as it is designed to work with mobile networks, they are simply not compatible with other hotspots. The company uses OpenWrt as the base firmware and it uses the native hotspot features provided by the wireless card so that anyone can easily create a hotspot using it. They then use the web interface to create a prepaid account on their website to allow you to pay for your usage, this is where the SIM card comes in as it is required to perform the payment.

You don't need the SIM card for this to work though. I think what you might be thinking of is how a mobile device works; when you run up your data (internet use), the amount is deducted from the credit given to your SIM card. When you run up the credit, the SIM card has no problem receiving information as it is on a mobile network, it has no connection to the WIFI side of the thing.
