Why doesn t my Stremio work?

Where are the subtitles?

I've been using Stremio for years and a few months ago it stopped working. My friends aren't exactly experts on computers so I've asked them to go through and fix a few things for me, but they don't know what's wrong.

Some of the features are still working fine like if I was watching a movie and had to skip to the next chapter, or just skip some chapters. Also the pause, etc. Features work fine.

The thing that is no longer working though is Stremio's translation function, and none of the subtitles that were automatically added to the movies. I've noticed before that this function worked fine in the past but now it's not doing anything.

I tried turning off the subtitles and then back on, but that didn't help either. When I look at the setting screen, there's no indication that it was ever working. I also looked through the settings to see if I could find any obvious settings that might be turned off, but everything was set to on. I was able to change a few settings from other parts of Stremio though.

Does anyone have any ideas as to what could be wrong or what I could try? I'm thinking that Stremio might be having some issues with something on the server side. I got a similar issue recently. Subtitles were not translating correctly for me anymore and Stremio did not have an option to "fix" it. At first, I thought it was because of my new PC and upgraded internet connection since it had been working fine in the past. That was not the case however, because I could manually select a subtitle that I wanted to use and it would just not translate it.

What I did, however, was completely remove and reinstall Stremio. I did not want to risk messing up my existing account and subscriptions. This took a couple hours because it does need to re-upload all the content. Since that didn't work, I created a new account (on a different PC) and then transferred my subscriptions to that account.

The subtitle problem got resolved though and I haven't had any problems since. I'm a bit wary though since I do not know how many other things might not have worked properly because of this.

Is Stremio any good or is it mostly just an old version of VLC?
