How do I reset my WinHTTP proxy?
I've been using a proxy for the past week and all of a sudden I'm getting an error message when I try to connect.
It says that the proxy is already in use. The proxy address is the same for all computers, but it's not. What do I do?
My WinHTTP proxy is not working, so I tried to reset it. When I do that, I'm told that the proxy is already in use. I don't know what to do.
I am using IE7 with IE8 on a WinXP machine. I've tried disabling the WinHTTP proxy setting and re-enabling it, but that didn't work. I then tried removing it from the IE configuration, and re-adding it, but that also didn't work.
Why would you do this? You should have no need to, and if you did, you should have read the following: I am not going to list all of the possible problems that you may encounter when you attempt to "reset" your proxy settings, nor will I list them here. Instead, I will give you a link to the MSDN article about doing this.
).aspx When reading that article, I would strongly suggest that you do what it says, ie, uncheck "Use current proxy settings". If you do so, you will be able to get IE to function correctly without having to fiddle with the proxy settings.
You could possibly try running IE as an Administrator, but that's just a guess. If you don't have any reason to reset your proxy settings, just don't. There is no reason to do so.
Thank you for your help. I did what you said. It said that the proxy was already in use. That means that I don't need to reset the proxy.
And I'm still having the problem where I get an error message when I try to open a webpage. I don't think it's a virus. I've had it happen before, but not since I installed the WinHTTP proxy.
Click on Start, then Programs, then Accessories, then Command Prompt (Admin). When the command prompt opens, type "ipconfig /release".
