Can I watch YouTube TV with a VPN?
We're constantly exploring new ways to improve your experience on our streaming services.
While it's already possible to watch videos from YouTube TV and ESPN with a VPN (as many of you have discovered), it's no longer possible to watch videos on other streaming apps, such as Hulu and ESPN+ Today, we are announcing that you will be able to watch videos from these services from your location while connected to the USYou'll be able to use a VPN to hide your real IP address and access content from all over the world through a single connection. This change will require an app-by-app policy revision so that certain video categories can be viewed from certain locations in the app. In each case, these policies are being implemented in concert with YouTube's policies to provide a consistent experience. For example, a policy change to allow you to watch video in the US from a VPN won't impact your experience with Hulu in the same location.
Video categories that are set to "US" from that app will continue to function as they currently do, with the following exceptions: YouTube Premium Currently, when watching videos from YouTube Premium (formerly known as Google Play) with a VPN from the US, you will see a message stating that access is restricted to the US. This will remain the case for the foreseeable future.
Hulu At present, if you watch videos from Hulu with a VPN from the US, you'll see a message that access is restricted to the US. If you try to access the same category on Hulu when your location is set to anywhere other than the US, you will not be able to access the content. This is consistent with our existing approach to blocking certain types of content from non-US viewers, and will be maintained. We will continue to monitor closely this category as new developments arise.
ESPN Currently, when you watch videos from ESPN on a VPN, you will see the message that access is restricted to the US. That's it! For now. If you are affected by this change and you'd like to request changes to these categories be applied to your location or service, please make your request here.
We've done everything we can to comply with local laws, which we respect greatly. However, sometimes those laws don't match up with how people actually want to use technology in their day-to-day lives.
How do I get Surfshark to work on YouTube TV?
I am answering your question because I just finished downloading Surfshark and tried it myself.
Since you asked in the comment section, here is my take on it: Surfshark will not work on YouTube TV unless you use a different DNS for Youtube TV. You can do that through your phone (if you have a different DNS setting) or in any other way - for example with a computer on Windows. First of all: if you want to follow me on twitter you would already know that I have a different DNS that my ISP gave me:
2.1 google.com
16 www.com Note that this is nothing specific to Surfspark, but a general thing which applies to all browsers using DNS: when you are connected to a different ISP, they provide you with their DNS server IP. That allows you to be routed through a different server and be connected to the correct site depending on where you are.
On windows you can easily get it up by following these steps: Click start, type "cmd" and hit "enter". Type: nslookup Google.com 10.16
Type "localhost" as well. This makes sure that DNS isn't defined in your browser, but is the DNS from your PC's network connection. If everything else fails, this might work, as well.
Wait for the results. DNS Lookup. Server: 10.16 Address: 10.1#53 Name: Google.com Address: 74.125.135.109
As you can see, the IP address that they want us to use is 10. Note that if you typed in "10.com" this wouldn't have worked.
Now with the Surfshark app you will have to use the alternative DNS that I mentioned in step 2. You can enter it manually into the Surfshark app, or through the Settings page on your phone.
Surfshark has the option to automatically enter the correct DNS IP (which was given to us by our ISPs).
Does Surfshark VPN work with YouTube TV?
This is not a general question about how Surfshark works, but an official answer from them, on the official website for their product: "SurfShark is able to bypass any kind of restrictions imposed by YouTube TV and Netflix.
It does not support any of the other services, though.
Note: We can bypass restrictions from other providers, but the service cannot work with the ones that are not supported by us. This is just one of the reasons why we believe this is a better service than most VPN providers."
This is an official statement from Surfshark's own website. It's also confirmed by other people who are using Surfshark. There's no doubt it works. It's just not as clear as the people from Surfshark are implying.
Why is Surfshark vpn provider different than all the other vpn providers? Because I use it on my laptop for streaming purposes. All other vpn services have issues and do not work with streaming purposes. Surfshark has proven time and time again to be the best vpn service. The reason why so many people leave their services is because they do not work in streaming.
Does Surfshark's own statement imply that they are the only one VPN provider that uses hardware which is in a different place than your computer? Because as I've stated, other VPNs just don't work when streaming. It depends if your ISP or your home router is blocking it (which ISP or router is filtering the port?) Surfshark has said that it supports any of the popular streaming services, so I have no doubt it works for YouTube TV. I use Surfshark on my Iphone 5s and I've used the app on my computer with windows and with android device, it works great in all three devices. You can use it in conjunction with any streaming service. However, I use it on top of my Netflix VPN. I was using a cheap VPN service called PIA which was great, until Netflix decided they would only give me access to the streaming for 6 months, once that time period was up, my Netflix account was deactivated and I was left with a blank window and nothing on their homepage. It was a bummer.
I researched all the VPNs out there and I couldn't find one that wasn't using some shady proxy servers.
Which VPN works best with YouTube TV?
If you do this, and feel better about it, it's best to stick with YouTube TV until the end of your current service plan before trying this out.
(Don't forget: You'll lose access to YouTube TV features if you cancel the service.)
We looked at all four top available VPNs ExpressVPN, NordVPN, PrivateVPN, and Private Internet Access and found a few key differences among them that are worth noting when selecting your new service. Here are the main differences between ExpressVPN, NordVPN, PrivateVPN, and Private Internet Access as seen from the service's own site: ExpressVPN A lot of options for those willing to pay.95 per month. This includes 256-bit AES encryption and speeds up to 60 Mbps in the US.
NordVPN Also a lot of options for those who are willing to pay. This offers 256-bit AES encryption and speeds up to 30 Mbps in the US.95 per month, for 256-bit AES encryption with speeds up to 200 Mbps in the US. This is its only plan as of now.95 per month, with no limits on VPN speeds.95 plan that will allow unlimited speeds and both have a seven-day free trial.
Overall, ExpressVPN and NordVPN aren't the fastest VPNs out there. That's probably not surprising.
