Is using a VPN illegal for Netflix?
Are users on Netflix illegally streaming?
If you think it's legal, think again. In 2023, a new program called 'Open Connect VPN' was developed by Netflix that allowed users to surf the site using a VPN from anywhere. Netflix later removed this functionality, but it has re-emerged online under the name 'Onavo'. Is this illegal or just misleading marketing? Let's take a look at what this entails and its legality in the UK. How is Netflix working? You are watching a streaming show. You want to watch something else. If you are not willing to pay for this content then Netflix will block your content with messages telling you not to come back without 'subsidies' (ie, paying for) the content you want to watch.
This is why some people are confused with Onavo. It's not illegal but many people assume it is.
The problem is Onavo is just one service in the growing number of VPN services out there. The catch with these is that they often sell their own 'VPN' packages and don't tell you that what they offer is a bit morewell, sneaky.
What's a VPN? VPN stands for virtual private network. A VPN creates a secure virtual tunnel through a public network which can be used to access local resources over the internet. So if your Internet connection is blocked at home, your connection with the internet will be over a private VPN connection that doesn't follow the restrictions of your ISP's network.
Soyou know a VPN's advantages and benefits, but have you ever used one? Not even an Onavo VPN? A VPN is a useful tool for staying anonymous online and unblocking websites on sites like Netflix. You can do it right now with the free apps on the iTunes Store or Google Play Store. This is a screenshot of my VyperVPN application installed on an iPad. I'm about to use that to watch a couple of episodes of Master Of None. Why do I need to use a VPN for Netflix?

Do any VPN still work with Netflix?
I understand that some VPNs don't work with Netflix but is there anything better I can use to get around it?
I tried using the Windows 7 built in VPN but I got errors about the IP address changing and then not working. I'm really fed up with this and would love to just be able to watch Netflix without having to put up with the constant stream of advertisements. If you are using a Windows machine, try using the free version of Hotspot Shield for your Windows 7 or 8.2 update, you can find it at I use CyberGhost (free). It's great for people like me who don't care about their privacy, but do care about what I see on the internet. They also have android app that works great and they are constantly improving their service.2 update, you can find it at
I use CyberGhost (free). I tried the free version and it didn't work with Netflix. I think I will need to move to the paid version of the VPN service. I'm kind of reluctant to do that because it doesn't seem like there is any way to get a refund if it doesn't work.
Are there any VPN services that are able to get around the problem? In my opinion you will never get a refund from them because they don't give refunds. This is just a fact.2 update, you can find it at
Thanks for the suggestion. Unfortunately, I'm using a Mac and they don't support the free version for Macs.
Which VPN can I use for Netflix Reddit?
There's a chance that you may be able to bypass your ISP's DNS blocks. The ISP will block many different sites for different reasons, most notably piracy sites. These often get blocked because they look like what the users would believe is a pirate website. You should be able to find this out with the help of a simple Google search. If you can't, you might be able to use a VPN. Unfortunately, Netflix is not one of those sites that can be hacked into. So, you won't be able to use a VPN in order to bypass your ISP's blocks.
I'm not exactly sure why Netflix blocks VPNs from working. Some people claim that Netflix itself has a policy of banning VPNs. In fact, I have heard of some people using VPNs on their home computers only to discover that it doesn't work on their Netflix streams. This doesn't make much sense.
There are a lot of different reasons for Netflix's blocks. A few of these include the idea that VPNs can be used for piracy or to otherwise bypass government censorship. In other words, Netflix is probably blocking VPNs in order to prevent that kind of activity. If you are worried about this, it would probably be wise to use a VPN at home, and just avoid using it when streaming shows on Netflix.
In reality, however, Netflix has no problem with VPNs. However, even if they do ban them, it will not stop you from using a VPN to bypass their blocks. Many people do use VPNs, but this isn't because they are necessarily trying to pirate shows or bypass government blocks. In other words, I think it is safe to say that there are very few people out there who are actively using VPNs in order to pirate content.
There are a number of other reasons that people use VPNs. Some of them include helping to protect users from malicious websites or to protect people from being tracked online. It is possible to use a VPN to hide your actual location, and you can use this to watch Netflix in a foreign country without leaving your own. Other reasons include privacy, safety, security, and access to specific sites.
So, if you are looking for a VPN for Netflix, it's possible that your ISP might be blocking the service. If they are doing so, they may be using a DNS filtering service as a means of enforcing this.
