I'm trying to figure out if the standard Android phone will support PPTP client mode so I can access my Windows server. I don't want to buy a cable, so I'm trying to find the easiest way to share files between my phone and computer.

If I understand correctly, what you're asking is if Android supports PPTP? If that's what you want to know, the answer is yes. The Android OS supports just about any protocol you could imagine: A "PPTP" VPN would be a virtual private network tunnel. If you want to connect to your home computer or office computer, PPTP or L2TP (a newer standard that's more secure) is the way to go. You need to purchase a server (the "firewall" portion of the VPN service) to provide the IP address for your computer and forward ports for your connection on the server side of the tunnel.

There are numerous ways you can do it, including a smartphone app (one of many available at Play Store). However, that's an area where Android is still lacking. I've seen no indication yet if a smartphone app for PPTP exists or is on the roadmap.

Edit: Forgot to mention, if your phone does support PPTP (which it should) then the connection is easy. Just connect using the "VPN" option (in Control Panel or settings). I see. Well let me start by saying I was talking about PPTP on the server side (ie the firewalls and server), not the android phone.

Does Android 13 support PPTP VPN?

If the setting for Prefer roaming is checked when VPN connection is started, and you have Android 13 devices then the VPN connectivity mode preference on Android 13 shows PPTP.

We have added PPTP as VPN connectivity mode also supports it via Android 13 as it is shown by the VPN apps list and the Turning off connection dialog in the apps.

As for Android 10, PPTP is listed in the VPN settings but only if the preference is turned on. Not all the devices support offline mode, so some Android 10 users may not be able to turn on PPTP in order to have an offline mode.

This is the status check I did on the settings screen of a Huawei P30 lite, running Android 10. If you can change the Prefer roaming setting, then, you will see PPTP listed in the VPN settings.

To manually connect to a PPTP VPN with Android 10, start the VPN by opening the app from recent tasks, then navigate to the main menu and click the connect option. We hope this solves some concerns about the availability of PPTP for Android 10 users. For now, let's watch Google add VPN support officially through future OS updates! Update: We had the impression that Google added support for PPTP in the past and the company does not comment when doing so. We thought that adding PPTP was already done in the past. Thanks for the answer to confirm that!

We would like to bring your attention to a problem which might occur if you use a Huawei device and want to use a PPTP VPN on it. This device is not compatible with any VPN service at the moment, because the Huawei network is blocked for any VPN access for some reason, no matter what service or provider is chosen.

I know very well about that issue. The most probable reason is the country restriction. I've noticed that I need to use openVPN (in order to bypass some countries restrictions) in order to be able to connect to VPN services. The problem is that the performance of openVPN is too poor, and it makes the network very slow. On top of that, I had to disable location tracking in Android OS to get rid of the tracking icon.

How to connect PPTP VPN in Android?

In this article, I am explaining you How to Connect PPTP VPN on your Android Smartphone or Tablet by using PPTP protocol.

The Android operating system comes with the ability to connect to the Internet, which works fine for most of the Internet users. As the Android phone has a small screen size, many users are unable to see the text properly and type on the keyboard smoothly. To overcome this problem many people turn to VPN services.

PPTP is one of the VPN protocols that is included in the Google Play Store which will allow you to enjoy security while browsing the web on your Android smartphone or tablet. PPTP VPN supports the connection to other PPTP networks and also supports data encryption. PPTP VPN doesn't just give us speed but also privacy. And it is easy to configure and use VPN client. If you're looking for best VPN client for Android, then OpenVPN (Open Source) is another good option and it is free.

What is PPTP VPN? PPTP, Point-to-Point Tunneling Protocol is a secure communications protocol that transfers data using layers below the TCP/IP to establish a Virtual Private Network. PPTP enables two systems to communicate through an encrypted channel. PPTP connects a host computer to a terminal server which in turn connects a remote computer through the Internet. There's an optional authentication process which establishes an encrypted channel between the two computers. This channel can be used to carry information between them securely. This protocol was initially developed in the year 1991 and was introduced by the British Telecommunications Research Laboratory (BT).

How to set up PPTP VPN on your Android device? The following are the steps to set up PPTP VPN on your Android device: Connect your Android device to your home Wi-Fi network using a Wi-Fi dongle. Then open the app Settings and tap on Wireless & Networks. Next, open up the VPN settings and open the Tunnel Type section. Enter pptp in the search box and select the best choice based on the criteria selected earlier. You will get three VPN options namely Chrome, Firefox and Android. Select the Android as the VPN type.

Why is my VPN not working on my Android phone?

I'm using the VPN for my Android phone as a workaround for a WiFi dead zone.

I have several computers at home and work where I can VPN into the Internet and access web pages without problems. However, when I use my phone, it doesn't connect to my VPN (it still shows that it's connected, though) and I get a message saying that my connection is not working.

My connection settings look like this: The VPN server is OpenVPN, and it has worked before. If I try to connect with a Windows 7 computer, it connects fine. I tried going into "advanced" and setting my IP address manually (my router assigns the address automatically), but that didn't help.

How do I fix this? I don't know why my phone is behaving differently than my computers. Sorry for being so vague, but I thought it would be easier to just ask you guys what I need to do. I just want to connect to a VPN from my phone and access the Internet as if I was at home. Thanks!

When I use my phone as a hotspot for my laptop, I have to use the 'VPN' button twice in the settings, once to get the VPN connected and once to connect my hotspot (it's set to use the VPN). I've been able to configure this so that I connect to the VPN and have my hotspot, but when I disconnect the VPN, I don't have my hotspot anymore. This makes it impossible to use the VPN for my laptop when I'm on the road. I'm also not sure whether this is the reason why my phone doesn't connect to my VPN.
