The description of the job read something like this. We need you to enter and update data into an online database. The work seemed easy. This was a side business idea, right? I could do it!

But when I read the requirements, I quickly realized there were some major roadblocks. It did not match my skill set.45 an hour. That was not much more than what I was paying at the fast food joint in college. I put it down and forgot all about it. But then the phone rings.

It was another data entry agency calling me up. So, the job was still not available when I first looked into it because the payment was low. I took it on. The job was simple. I had to enter names from a list. As soon as I saw how much money I could make per hour, I was ready to tackle this project!

When we talk about the money coming in we need to think about two things: How we plan to live while generating income and how much income we would need to survive. Plan. As soon as we realize that our current lifestyle doesn't match what we want, our emotions start to kick in. We start getting anxious or feel sad about what we will loose.

It is very common to start feeling that this side gig, that is supposed to be a side hustle will no longer fit our current situation. And that might be true. So let's do a checkup. In my own life, I have learned I am a pretty hard worker. In the few months I have been learning how to do data entry, I've been working 7 days a week, including my lunch break. My life has changed from a comfortable college student who worked 5 days a week to a full time freelancer. This means that now if I want to go to classes or even see my friends, I will have to be home later than they are usually available.

I could always go home and get some sleep, or be a slave like a lot of people say you have to be, but I choose another route. I can take the time to get in a better position financially.

Not enough details for you to say much but what I'd guess is possible: 1) Have an account, or a project at least. 2) Use that account in a non-dev- specific service like mail2email, or github, or whatever. How you can do that is up to you but it can give a starting point. As to the follow up questions, the idea would be to make the company think of. You as that guy who's a known thing. That way they don't need to know about you because you're already accounted for with the account and work you provide. Isn't much of a deviation from it. On the technical side, you would start with the least resource intensive/time. Consuming service and evolve it outwards. For your own account, I'd say do your own email, git, IRC account/project. Tracking system etc. If your client expects more then go all in--but for an initial project it might be easier to be just good enough to get it going. In the last week of December, I'm going to need a reliable source for data entry.

I've never done this type of work before and it will take 1-2 hours per day. I can commit to this project for at least two weeks.

If you are bored with a job, you will not have the energy to work hard. However, if you find a job that is boring, you may not have the energy to work. Don't get yourself into a bad situation.

Be realistic with how much work you can get. Don't be greedy.

There are many people that have a skill that they want to use. They simply don't have the time to get the experience to learn how to use their skill. That is where freelancing comes in. As you gain experience, you can charge more and your client will want you to work faster and better. As you gain experience, you will be able to say that you have the skills to do a certain type of work. If you don't have that skill, you can still find work. A good way to get started is to just start by charging less.
