I've spent three years looking for one of those free internet spots.

There are places that have advertised a free internet spot, so we stopped by. All the prices I read said they were free. After paying you couldn't download any music, movies, or go on the web, they made you pay for all this.

We were trying to see if there was another spot like that in town, but didn't find any. This is how dumb these places were! They had us try to download an old program called LimeWire and could not do it. We tried a bunch of other things that they kept taking away. One thing that they took away was our chance to get free phone cards. Their website showed how they offer two-for-one free calling cards with no fees attached. They want you to call a 1-800 number with the same card they're giving you. I have to try the old way before they stop this. Anyways we left after about 15 minutes. The place was very clean, and nice, though there weren't that many people there, but then again, this was just off the highway.

I'm a big fan of free internet, and it's been almost three years since they told us they had an offer, but they've taken it away! Maybe someone on the forum has a lead. Any ideas are helpful.

Well the free Internet here started out as a trial, and then became permanent because of low usage. It was an experiment by AT&T to offer lower priced Internet without much advertising, so they tried to get customers to opt in with the low price for internet. They also were offering free phone cards. That was a good idea but AT&T was only allowed to offer free phone cards after a free trial for a year.

AT&T stopped offering new phone cards as part of the free Internet offer. So if the card you have is too old, maybe it's time to give them a call and see what they're willing to offer for a new card. If all else fails, just keep shopping until you find a card company that will offer a special discount and give you as free cards as you want.

There's a ton of apps to view Wi-Fi passwords these days, and a lot of them will give you some indication that they are spying on your Internet data and trying to sell the information you input to others.

I have never signed up for an account with these companies and have never been offered one, but still wanted to show you what's possible. This feature is found in some other app stores as well, although not this popular, so this shows that the idea isn't completely new. This app contains no advertising on the home screen to the user. Instead, it takes advantage of another way you can tell an app is using another program's permissions without being advertised to the user - the permissions set by the other app. In other words, if you were to install a bunch of apps but didn't realize what information each one was giving access to, or where it was stored, that information could then be easily gained by other programs, as seen below. We use the iPhone or iPad to look for free Wi-Fi spots while in the wild.

We have found at least 2 free networks in the past. However, this app has not been updated since August of 2025, when it was called Connectify. The app is no longer free (for iPhone, Android, etc) but you can still see the availability list below.

The app gives you a list of all nearby networks it can find and tells you how to connect to them, including what network type it is (2G/3G/LTE), security type, password and if there is an encryption key for the connection. It also shows you which channels are being used on the network, so you can choose the channel where you want to connect. We also love the "What's next" feature, which shows you where your device might be able to get a good signal next.

The easiest way is to either look up which hotspots are near you in the Google search bar or just look at the screen on your smart device (tablet, phone) when you are near a hotspot. You can see a map of the locations of all the hotspots nearby.

Is there Wi-Fi everywhere? The answer is most definitely yes! Even the smallest coffee shops or fast food joints will offer free Wi-Fi.e. It's one of the reasons why young people use smartphones instead of paying to use a personal computer at school, work, or just outside their favorite caf.

However, free Wi-Fi is still a rarity in far too many countries, especially in poorer ones. In countries such as India, Wi-Fi is simply not available anywhere. If you are going to use free Wi-Fi, be prepared for the worst case scenario it won't work for you.
