Is it ethical? Or both? Is it right? When I made my first website, I had no idea whether the websites which were using unfairly high-scraping scripts to grab my site's pages would be caught and punished for that. In my case, they didn't get caught at all because my website has a very small page count (it is just a simple HTML website for a school student project).

However, when the sites which are big and well-known got caught, the site owners have to face lawsuits, which costs a lot of money and their website gets completely blocked. But even in these cases, the site owners don't face imprisonment, instead they would end up being fined.

With more and more sites being developed by scraping or hacking websites through the use of a variety of scraping scripts and browser extensions, and some of these scripts are used as key modules or features in the scraping scripts, you would think that people who are developing these types of scripts would do so with the knowledge that what they are doing would be unethical and possibly illegal. If the developers themselves haven't done the research, then maybe they would be oblivious to the fact that their scraping scripts can and probably will get them in hot water. This is why we're doing analysis to learn about scraping on Wikipedia. Since many of the articles on Wikipedia are free-to-access and easy to understand, some of us thought we could just go ahead and check the Wikipedia database.

Can I scrape posts from Facebook?

I'm looking to scrape some content from a Facebook page.

However, I don't have access to the code. Can anyone tell me how? If not, can someone at least give me a site I can download the content from, and use that to scrape.

Facebook has restricted access to their data to their partners who create apps and web-sites that have a relationship with Facebook. They also enforce rules about scraping and scraping on their partners' behalf.
