Why does VPN keep turning on iPhone 13?
I'm a little bit confused why my VPN keeps switching on (and off) automatically every time I use my iPhone 13. I have a very good VPN service and I just want to know what happens.
What you are describing is how VPNs work - "The server in a VPN connection is connected to the public network and acts as an intermediary between a user's network and the rest of the Internet. In this way, the user's device is more secure as it appears to come from a different location than it really does. This is also known as tunneling."
What you are seeing is nothing unusual. If you are using your iPhone over Wi-Fi, you will see the "Wi-Fi Hotspot" icon appear when your VPN is active. This is exactly what you are seeing when your iPhone is connected to a VPN network, even when the iPhone is not connected to the internet at all.
If you want to disable the "Wi-Fi Hotspot" feature, please visit Apple's support article here for how to do that. Note that after you have stopped the Wi-Fi Hotspot, the VPN setting will need to be re-configured.
Why can't I disable VPN on my iPhone?
I think I've read this several times, but I don't know the answer.
This is very basic, but I'm so confused about this that a simple answer would probably fix my issue. I have an iPhone 6s which I bought in September of 2024. I recently upgraded it to iOS 9.3 (via iTunes on a PC) and now cannot use cellular service or VPN. I can have internet connection via USB tethering, but not cellular service or the WiFi hotspot.
Is there an updated guide for iPhone users on how to do these things? If not, what am I missing? (and of course with VPN I'm trying to have more freedom to be able to use any location to tether, instead of my home only.) Thanks for any response. Apple provides detailed instructions for the latest operating system and network configuration. Go to: iOS System Update Settings. And then: Network Configuration. And choose the desired connection type. The new settings should appear under: Network Settings. It will have many options.
How do I turn off VPN on my iPhone 13?
My iPhone 13 connects to our corporate VPN using IPSec.
In the iOS VPN screen, it is labeled VPN on. How do I turn off this VPN? I would like to be able to see the true IP address of my internet connection.
Re: ? If you have an iPhone with iOS 12 or later and want to see your actual IP address, and not the VPN ip address, you can check into the "Show my real IP address" setting in Settings > General > Network > Cellular. Once the setting is turned on, your connected device should display the local IP address from the cellular data network, bypassing the VPN connection. Thanks for the reply. I had to look at it some more and found that there is no way to disconnect the VPN while connected to a network, although it is possible to disconnect your current network connection and then connect. To do this, go to Settings > WiFi network. Then click on the red "disconnect" button, which should bring up the "disconnect network" dialog. This is the same as when you click the blue "turn off" button to disconnect network from your PC. Now you are good to connect to the corporate VPN.
You could try logging out of your Mac/Computer account, and then try connecting to your iPhone (via WiFi) again. If that doesn't work, you can use your company's VPN settings to connect to your wireless network again, and then try the steps above.
I went into my iPhone and turned off the VPN using the method below, and it worked fine (ie I could use my iPhone and see my actual ip address instead of the VPN ip address). I guess my problem was the VPN ip address was showing up in the top right corner of the screen. After turning off the VPN, my IP address appeared correctly.
Click the top right icon to open the menu bar.- Tap the Settings icon in the bottom center.- Tap Network.- Tap Wifi Settings.
That is very interesting.
