How to get DNS name from IP address in Linux?

How do I lookup DNS names for IP address?

How can I lookup IP addresses based on DNS name?

As far as I can tell, the IP addresses are not stored in the DNS, so there is no direct lookup for the IP address and it is instead a lookup of where it can be found on the Internet. I think the IP addresses are also usually not stored in DNS (and not necessarily known by names), which means they do not have a standard name either.

To me, there seems to be two ways to get these IP addresses: Query the authoritative server for a given name. The best way would be using an API, but you can also query DNS directly if you know the name of the server.

Use a search engine such as Google or Yandex. These services may also return the IP addresses.

So, what name to use? You may ask yourself the same question I did when I first encountered them: why are these IP addresses that we see in DNS records? Maybe, they are IP addresses used to verify whether the DNS server is correct. They may even appear more commonly when someone hosts something, because they use their own address to do so and therefore have a domain name for it.

If I have understood your question correctly, I think the best solution would be to run a search engine on the name and see if it returns anything, then use the IP address of the server that it finds. If you're referring to this list of IP addresses under Google, all they're doing is listing IP addresses that match a domain name. If the number 1 is listed, that means the domain name matches a single IP address. So you could make a new web page for a site at an IP address 1 or 1 million. If Google can find the IP address for that domain name, it'll put the name in the list.
