How to install private internet access VPN on Samsung Smart TV?

What VPN should I use for Samsung?

Which VPN is best for Samsung Galaxy S9?

Can anyone suggest a suitable VPN that I can use for my current situation? I want to use a VPN while streaming in the car, so I need something easy to use with no lag or problems. All I really need to do is to route all my traffic through a VPN while i'm on WiFi, and connect to my VPN via Ethernet at home. That's it. This is just to improve the speed on my network when I'm out, and it seems like everything on this forum is aimed at people who have no idea what they're doing.

I just don't know what apps will be compatible and work well. Will PPTP work? I'm also not sure how to set up a server on an Android phone or if it's even possible at all. If it's not, are there any recommended free ones out there? I don't want to pay for something with no free options.

PTP is basically PPTP plus NAT-over-IPSec encryption. (NAT means that you can't see the VPN endpoint IP address outside of the tunnel, but it does mean that your ISP sees all of your traffic as "coming from the VPN endpoint IP.") It's great, and it works very well, but it is proprietary. Your only free alternative is OpenVPN which is based on TCP/IP rather than UDP/IP. TCP/IP is a bit more CPU intensive than UDP/IP, but it is completely compatible with the existing S9 VPN client. (Unless you already have PPTP and only want to keep it.)

OpenVPN is free, but commercial products may be available, but they typically have an active (monthly) subscription fee. VPN service providers (including Google) sometimes use "server" mode VPNs (they allow you to connect to one VPN endpoint which is then used to secure all of the traffic from your client devices, including the ones on your mobile data plan.) A "server" mode VPN can be set up using OpenVPN, and the Android client provides a way to do this, but it's fairly complicated.

Which VPN works with Samsung Smart TV?

I bought a new Samsung smart TV a few months ago but the only apps that it can download and run are Amazon and Netflix apps.

Is there a VPN that works with the Samsung smart tv? Is there an Android app? I have a Roku 3 now. I'm not getting HD in my current TV. I was looking for the Slingbox but they said they don't support older televisions.

Samsung smart TV requires special software called "SmartHome" or "SmartHub". They did announce that they are working on an Android or iOS app in the future.

Is your TV "TV" capable of supporting high definition content? Is there a DVD/BD you can use instead? In all cases, if the device you want to connect is no longer supported by the manufacturer, you may be able to find a replacement at However if the device manufacturer no longer supports the product, I've had good luck downloading and installing the device driver, and connecting the new device via HDMI. Hello and welcome to TSSF! I'm glad you're enjoying my site! I've recently heard about the SmartHub for Samsung TVs, which may be able to do what you're looking for. From my experience, HDMI does NOT work well with Samsung TVs (and many others) when watching anything higher than standard definition content. You're much better off getting either a second TV, or, if your existing TV can handle your set top box (which is often the case), hooking it up to your second TV. If it can only do basic set top boxes (like a Roku 3) it probably does not support the SmartHub at this time. I'm not sure if any other models are able to utilize the hub at this time. If it's important to you to continue using your existing TV, check your warranty and ask a Samsung rep about support for the TV you own. If you're feeling lucky, you can always ask the forum for possible alternatives to solve your issue. Hope this helps!

How to install Private Internet Access on Samsung Smart TV?

(All models). You can download the VPN from and you are done. (Note: If you have trouble installing this one, you can try some other vpn software or use the built-in wifi security. You can look at How to make wireless connection to the net.)

On some models: There is an option for private internet access when you click on settings. On some models there might be an entry named Connect Securely, which should work. This entry also depends on what firmware version you have. To find out, navigate to settings and see if it says something like (firmware 5.4, 5.5, 8.0, ) and click on it. For example, (firmware 5.7, 6.1, 7.2, 7.3. Etc.), select Upgrade Firmware and wait for your TV to download and install the latest firmware version. Then go to SETTINGS>SAFE SETTINGS>PRIVATE INTERNET ACCESS (if you see this under firmware version, select Upgrade Firmware and wait until the software finished updating the firmware).

This method will always work. However, since it's not recommended to upgrade the firmware of your smart tv, you might see the message Downloading firmware forever. If so, you need to force restart the device.

NOTE: You need to have a compatible adapter and a wireless dongle (WDS) card. WDS support is not guaranteed for all brands. On some models, you need to use a USB adapter instead of a wireless card. If so, search for a USB adapter with a supported chipset and make sure that it's compatible with your Samsung device.

Step 2. Connect to the internet using the Ethernet cable.

Connect the ethernet cable from your router to your smart tv. Use the LAN port (not the WAN port! NOTE: If your wifi dongle is not working, simply using the ethernet cable to connect to the internet will get you internet access on your TV via ethernet.
