How do I block ads on Android completely?
I am very frustrated with the amount of ads on Android devices.
When I turn my phone on I need to wait at least five minutes for a website to load because of ad-blocking software. Is there any app out there that will allow me to completely block ads?
My first attempt was to use Flashblock (it seems to work fine on my browser, but it does not work with Chrome) and AdAway, but neither of them worked. I have tried using these apps on multiple browsers and it is always the same: AdAway blocks one or two websites, but not all of them. The apps I have tried:
It works as advertised, but it takes quite a while to block the ads. Sometimes it works fine, but if you don't do something in a minute or two, the website loads normally. On mobile phones it is much worse, you have to wait at least ten seconds for it to load the webpage.
Thanks for the link. I did try that one as well. I had to change the default configuration files, which I am sure you could figure out. It did not work for me, but I will try it again and report back.
I tried your recommendation. It works very well, but it did not block all ads. For example, I went to a website where I found the video to be blocked, but it worked fine in Safari and Opera. But when I tried to use Chrome, the video was not blocked. It blocked the videos on the second site, but it did not block the first one.
I am having a hard time getting this to work. I am on Chrome, so I can't use Firefox or Opera, and I do not have Flash. I tried using the "AdAway for Chrome" and it works great. It does not load any ads and it does not even try to load them. But it does not block all ads. If I try to go to a site that has an ad, I get a message that says "This page contains an ad". I can turn the filter off, but it just blocks the site. I get the same message no matter how many sites I visit. I am really surprised that the filter works on websites that have ads and not on the ones that don't. The filter just shows a message that says, "This page contains an ad.
Does Android have built-in AdBlock?
I am wondering if Android has built-in AdBlock that is inbuilt into the Android system?
I have tried to read about it online, but I don't think I have found any mention of it. Short answer is no, there is no native ad blocker in any version of Android (IOS/Windows/BlackBerry/etc.).
There is some software available that will allow you to block ads, but in the end it's your phone and you are responsible for what software is on it. For example on my S4 there are multiple options for ad blocking on the play store (and the market), but it's up to you to install it. So, no built-in block/filter.
