Why do links open in browser and not app?

I created a hyperlink on the web part which opens my word document.

The link opens in browser and the file path is a valid directoy, but it opens in the browser and does not open my program.

When I use an App like excel it opens the file. I created a link on a sharepoint page but it does the same thing it is not opening in the app. What can be the cause? I think that what you need to do is add a URL Scheme to the manifest settings for your word document. This will allow clients to choose what program to open the document with using the url.

I would first go in to the properties of the document and click Add a URL Scheme. Then provide one you are familiar with like this: then test it by opening up your word doc and choosing File > Open then choose the Word Url Scheme option. It should work as expected then.

I would like to be able to open links I open in app via a custom URL scheme to be opened up in the app itself.

There's an iOS 7.1 update currently, which added some things to allow it. I think the answer is something to do with URL Scheme and possibly App Activation but I don't know how to make it happen.

How do I get links to open in app instead of browser?

I have a site which will display news stories (no ads, no popups, just pure text) from the web. The links on this site open in a browser, but I would like it to open in app. I use Chrome on my iPhone so my problem is not with other browsers.

Can I program the site so that when a user clicks on a link on the page, it opens in the app instead of in the browser? How? Thank you. Add an iFrame to the page.
