How big do camellia azaleas get?
I live in the Pacific NW and my camellias are small, probably about 8" high.
They get a good amount of water, but I'm thinking about getting a few more to put in another part of my garden.
So the question is, how big do they get? How many feet can you expect? Is there a limit on how many you can have? One of our customers has a dozen camellias. They are in full sun and get an average of 50-60 gallons of water a week. Their camellias will get anywhere from 6-12 inches tall. We had some that grew over 12 inches tall!
I'm not sure how you can measure the size of a camellia, but I would guess that camellias are measured by their "trunk size". What size did your camellias grow? Are you talking about the height of the top of the bush, or are you talking about the total height of the bush? You can get anywhere from a couple inches to about 3 feet tall. The biggest one we had was about 4 feet tall! The plants are measured by their trunk size. And they have a limit of how many you can have (a few). The first time I planted them, I got 10. The second time, I got 9, then 11, and so on. And they have a limit of how many you can have (a few).
I'm not sure if you're referring to the height of the plant or the height of the bush. I can't remember what the height of the bush was.
I think the tree is what you're asking about. The tallest I ever got was about 9 feet tall, and it grew that tall all at once. It was planted in the same spot, in the same type of soil, with the same amount of water, for the same amount of time.
Can camellias and azaleas grow together?
Yes!
=BEDDING=. To prepare a soft bed, fill an empty flower pot, set it in a sunny. Window, and tie the outside to the sill of the window with a string. Of florist's wire. Then scatter on the bottom leaves and straw or fine loose soil. Add a few flowers, and set this pot on the floor of the room where you wish your plant to grow. A bed in the sun will be able to grow flowers almost any time of the year. Plants growing from cuttings will need much more heat than those growing from seeds. =ROSES=. It is better to plant roses by seeds rather than by cuttings. Roses that are grown from seeds need several years to get into full growth. Some kinds, however, grow from seed in a few months, and it is quite. Convenient to grow them in pots for a month or two while they are. Growing. The seed should be planted one half as deep as the top of the pot. Water well, and cover with a close layer of fine soil or sand.
When the first bud appears, water well again. Do not let the soil get dry between watering. When there are four buds, prune out the side shoots and pinch back the center bud. In three weeks more, the rose will be in full bloom. =PEA TREES=. Select pea trees in full flower and transplant them into a large pot. Fill pot with pea-meal compost and a little sand, and set in a warm. Light room. After transplanting, set in a place that has as little sun as possible. Prune in June and July, cutting back the wood. Keep well watered during the growing season. Peas, being
A legume, require a plentiful supply of nitrogen. During the first two weeks after planting, sprinkle around each pea several tablespoons. Of fresh bean-cake ground finely and thoroughly with water. Keep sprinkling until the roots start to grow out from the stem. =HYACINTHS=. Give hyacinths a good, rich soil and light. Plant the bulbs deep and press them down firmly.
What's the difference between a camellia and a rhododendron?
Well, let's start with the rhododendron.
The rhododendron is a member of the Rose family, whereas the camellia belongs to the genus Camellia. If you want to differentiate between the two you need to go into flower specifics. The rhododendron blooms from May to October. The rhododendron has an enormous variety of flower shapes and sizes. Some types have long, cascading flowers and others have shorter more vertical flower types. The rhododendron's leaves come in a variety of shapes and sizes as well. The leaves on the rhododendron may be shaped like a fan or a leafy spoon. Some types are so large that the petals cover the entire flower.
The camellia has flowers in January and February. The camellia is also a member of the Rose family. The camellia has smaller, simpler flowers, but those flowers are just as fragrant as the rhododendron. The camellia's leaves are usually shaped like a fan or spoon and they are relatively smaller. The leaves are usually less than 1 inch in length.
For my first entry in the new flower series I have chosen a flower that can be used in more than one kind of bouquet. Although the camellia can be placed in a bouquet or centerpiece, it is not common. In fact, you will find very few camellias in flower shops. The camellia is a shrub that is usually not planted in landscaping gardens. But that does not mean you cannot enjoy a camellia in your own garden. You can grow camellias in a container or even in the ground. There are many varieties of camellias that flower from June to October. Many types bloom from June to August. Those types that bloom later in the season often are smaller and less fragrant. These types do have other advantages, however. They often have the best disease resistance. When the camellia blooms later in the season it is more likely that the plants will be able tolerate the longer days of fall.
In the past I have shown how to create different kinds of bouquets. I also have shown how to make different types of vases. Today I want to talk about the camellia and how to use it to create a bouquet.
