What is the DNS for blocking YouTube?

Which DNS can unblock sites?

As a long time user of many different DNS servers, I want to know which one is best for unblocking sites that you want to visit, such as BBC news, BBC sport etc.

I have tried Google DNS and this works well for those sites. But not all sites work with it, for example I can't see any of the BBC weather widgets on my computer.

I know that I have tried OpenDNS and this works fine but it seems to be limited to a few sites, and this is fine for me. But I'm looking for a DNS server that unblocks all sites so that I can just point it to the address I want without having to think about it. I have a router so it doesn't matter if it's a wired or wireless connection.

I want a DNS that works like Google DNS or OpenDNS where it unblocks most sites and then you only have to point it to the specific site you want to visit. Re: ? If you want a single DNS server that will do everything, then you're out of luck. The problem is that the different sites have different domains, so DNS doesn't really help here. If the domains are all part of the same domain, then you can use OpenDNS and it will work for everything.

I would recommend a VPN solution instead of a DNS solution. Yes I want a single DNS server that will work for all sites, so there is no need for me to have to remember to go to a specific website. So I don't want to use OpenDNS or Google DNS or even the router DNS because they don't unblock all sites.

I agree that a VPN is a better option. But I don't want to set up a VPN, I want to know what DNS servers unblock all sites. I will just point the DNS to the address that I want to visit.

Just to be clear, by "all sites" I meant sites that I want to visit, not just sites that have a particular domain name. And yes, the DNS has a lot to do with it, but it's not the only thing.

What is the DNS for blocking YouTube?

I've heard it is www.

Youtube.com, but that website can't be accessed from inside the country. I really don't understand how blocking works. Can someone please explain this to me?

Maggie. We think Maggie gets this one; here's her question: How is it that people can access YouTube within the US, but cannot access the YouTube page? I tried to Google the answer and found a lot of speculation on the web that it's about the DNS for blocking YouTube. I read a news article which said it was a new method that involves blocking YouTube's DNS server within borders to help prevent people from accessing the site. I was wondering if this was right or wrong, and what exactly it is. Any explanation would be great! Thanks!
B. We were also curious about this one. In its most basic form, what we're talking about here is DNS servers. Most of the time when you go to websites, your browser or device makes a request to a DNS server to translate an address to an IP address. The DNS server then responds with the correct IP address, which lets you visit the requested website. But what if the DNS server can't respond? What if it takes several attempts before it responds? That's a whole other topic we'll discuss in a minute, but first let's talk about how DNS servers work.

We do a lot of work with DNS servers at Ask About Wireless. We've used them for all sorts of things, but one of our favorite uses is what we refer to as blocking technology. For example, if you're working at home and you can only access the Internet through your employer's Wi-Fi network, if you can't get to a DNS server, that means you can't get to certain sites. That's what Maggie is referring to in her question. If there's a DNS server in a border zone that can't resolve the correct IP address for a website, then you can't get there. You also can't get to Youtube. Your browser or device can't find the IP address for Youtube.
