Is Yippy a meta search engine?
Is there a new standard for what a search engine should be?
In a discussion on Hacker News earlier today we heard quite a lot of different arguments in favor of or against Yippy and its potential to be the meta-search engine.
In general, I try not to do search engine comparisons here as it is such a topic so full of different opinions, with several players and interests involved. There are a few posts on The Information where I comment on why Yippy is one particular search engine when comparing to other search engines, but I think those are done a bit too broad at this point. Instead I will go into Yippy from the perspective of someone who knows a bit about it and uses it in her everyday life.
But what I will probably do is give some more context on myself as well: My background is engineering (PhD Computer Vision) but when working on Yippy I studied philosophy, AI and psychology. This was a result of a strange combination that has turned out great! So maybe my take on this discussion might differ a bit from the standard answers for you.
First, if you have seen Yippy before, it may be interesting to hear my answer why this happened. We started working on Yippy as an independent game. But we liked it so much that it turned into this great open platform that many people were enjoying, and that's not entirely in our control.
At this point, Yippy is a very popular game. It does not matter whether it is the only game for the platform. The games people play depend entirely on what the community does. Yippy allows for users to self-organize their content into channels on the search platform and also connect them (by sharing channels) over peer to peer networks. The Yippy Search Engine tries to provide an ideal way for users to navigate around, across, into and through all these channels and their content. And of course, everyone is free to make a different search engine for the web, or a channel search or content discovery platform. Our hope is that they will combine into the unified meta-search experience they would need on the web.
This all sounds very abstract and perhaps rather hard to explain. To actually understand this in reality you need a little bit of understanding about what is going on behind the scenes.
What type of search engine is Yippy?
Yippy is the most used search engine on the web, which means that we know a lot about how it works.
So, what is Yippy? What is Yippy? Yippy is a simple search engine that allows people to search for information on the internet and find things they're looking for. The best part about Yippy is that you can filter results by keywords.
For example, if you want to find information on the US Constitution, but you want to limit your results to the top 50 results, you can do that by searching for the US Constitution in Yippy. If you don't like the results, you can then choose to search again by using a different keyword. What are some of the benefits of using Yippy? The main benefit of using Yippy is that it is a search engine that is very easy to use, unlike Google or Bing. Unlike those other search engines, you can quickly get to the page you are looking for in just two clicks, and you can search for a keyword as often as you like.
Why not use Google or Bing? A lot of people use Google or Bing instead of Yippy because they know what they're looking for. However, Yippy has a lot of great features that make it a much better search engine than Google or Bing. You can filter your results by typing in the search box whatever keywords you want. This means that you can quickly get to the result you're looking for.
Who is Yippy? How much does Yippy cost? The free version of Yippy is completely free. However, if you'd like to get more information or to explore the advanced features, you'll need to upgrade to Yippy Pro.
Is Yippy safe? Yippy is completely safe. You won't be sharing any of your personal information with Yippy. In fact, Yippy doesn't even store any of your information at all.
