What happens when you configure proxy?

When you configure proxy for any HTTP web browser, the web browser starts to talk to the proxy server instead of the website you are trying to visit.

The web browser will send a request to the proxy server asking for the website. The proxy server will receive this request and will forward this request to the website. The website will receive this request from the proxy and will reply to the web browser with a response that is sent back to the proxy server. This process happens repeatedly until the proxy server is satisfied that the web browser has received the response and the web browser closes the connection.

It is possible to configure proxy for any other protocol such as FTP, telnet, POP3, IMAP and many more. A proxy is used when you want to: redirect traffic to another site. Limit your web browser's access to the Internet. Filter out some websites or content on the Internet. Hide your IP address from the Internet. You can use any proxy to hide your IP address. It is possible to use only one proxy server. However, it is recommended to use at least two proxies for more security.

How to configure proxy? The most common way to configure proxy is by using the Internet Options window in the browser. But the method you choose depends on the type of browser you are using. The steps to configure proxy for any browser are as follows:

Open the Internet Options window. Open the Connection tab. Select the LAN settings option. Select the Advanced settings option. Select the Connection Settings option. Select the Settings button. In the General tab, select the Use a proxy server for your LAN option. In the Advanced tab, select the LAN proxy settings option. In the LAN Proxy Settings window, enter the IP address of the proxy server in the Address field. Enter the port number in the Port number field. In the LAN proxy settings window, enter the user name and password in the User name and Password fields. In the LAN proxy settings window, select the HTTP proxy option. In the LAN proxy settings window, select the FTP proxy option. In the LAN proxy settings window, select the POP3 proxy option.

Should configure proxy be on or off on iPhone?

I have an iPad that connects to our company's network over my home internet, using a wifi router.

We also have the ability to connect directly to the public internet via modem or mobile broadband.

We can get full bandwidth on the iPad when connected via wifi router and modem, but if I use my iPhone as a VPN-connected proxy to make the connection, then my traffic goes over the cellular network instead of the wifi, the iPad gets horrible speeds. To connect on the iPad, I go to preferences/wireless and tell it to turn off the VPN (I'm assuming the settings are saved in the VPN?), then manually enter my proxy server, port and authentication information. Is this the normal behavior? Should I have it do the same for both connections? Does anyone know why they are handling this differently on iOS? For instance, even though I can configure the iPad to use either method, once I configure it one way it will use that until I switch settings, and it will only use the phone proxy (which is horrible) if the iPhone is used as a proxy device. Is there a way to have the proxy be set up automatically on the iPad and not mess with the iPhone settings? Thanks. In general, you should keep your VPN in the configuration for the WiFi; this will reduce your cellular plan costs for you (and provide a more seamless experience to the people around you). It will also allow you to connect over cellular when the Wifi is bad (eg inside a hotel room). You don't have to pay for cellular data while your VPN is active, so it may not even be cheaper than your current connection with data usage plans; it's up to you if you'd like to save money on your mobile service plan.
