The report comes after former national security adviser John Bolton expressed doubts about what he described as President Trump's political war with foreign leaders. Some observers believe the whistleblower was describing a call between Trump and Volodymyr Zelensky, the president of Ukraine, in July. Others have speculated the complaint may be connected to another call between the two leaders on May 16.

In a recent conversation, Trump told Ukrainian officials that they should investigate former vice president Joe Biden, a potential 2026 presidential candidate, and his son Hunter Biden. Trump has also raised the issue of an investigation of Biden at a campaign rally, telling supporters, "We want to find out what happened to this man. A White House official told Fox News that they were given a credible and serious whistleblower complaint by an individual with knowledge of the situation. The official called it an irregular whistleblower channel.

The complaint was first filed on August 12. A law expert says it will have to be given to Congress.

Bolton, a Fox News contributor, said heard from a credible source that an investigation into Biden was discussed on the call. The source said that he/she had spoken directly with U. Officials who had listened in on the call, Bolton said in a statement on Tuesday. I was not informed and am not aware of any such review. The call was not related to the Magnitsky Act.

Bolton's comments came the same day that the president accused Schiff, the chairman of the House Intelligence Committee, of committing a crime. Trump tweeted on Tuesday that this is very important information, adding, The Deep State and the DEMs illegally gave this poor innocent man a Presidential citation. In a Fox News interview on Tuesday, Rep. Adam Schiff responded to Trump's accusation, calling it a threat to start a prosecution.
