Is Mozilla VPN a good idea?

Is Mozilla VPN a good idea?

I'm using Firefox and I've been surfing the web for a couple years now.

I've always had a few problems with my browsing experience on public Wi-Fi networks, because they are usually really slow. I've always assumed that this was because it was a public Wi-Fi network, but then I discovered VPNs and how great they are.

The only problem is that the one I have on my Mac is really slow. Not only that, but it is very expensive to use. I've heard that there are free alternatives, but I can't find any information on the web.

So what I want to know is: Is Mozilla's own VPN a good idea, or are there better free alternatives? Mozilla's own VPN isn't a bad idea. But you have to be a little careful. If you're using it as a standalone solution, you'll need to run it on a computer and connect to your internet through that computer. If you're connected to the internet through that computer, then it'll work fine. It won't work if you connect through an access point, since the traffic will go through your computer's WiFi card and not your computer's ethernet card.

If you're connected through your ethernet card, then you're probably running Windows or Linux, since only those two OSes support OpenVPN. (This is the protocol that Mozilla uses.)

The only thing that I would advise against is connecting to your computer through your ethernet port. This is a bit of a security risk.

But you do have to be careful. You could get a router that has built-in VPN capabilities. I'd recommend a DD-WRT based router, since it's easy to install custom firmware and that gives you a lot of flexibility. For example, you can change the port that you use for your ethernet connection. I have a DD-WRT router that I connect to my ethernet port through a VPN. I use the ethernet port for the connection to my router's internet access point.

If you mean "How does Mozilla VPN work?" the answer is it's a DNS-over-HTTP proxy, not a VPN, and it's certainly not better than most other VPNs.
