Does YouTube TV allow multiple users?
How to add more users
There are a lot of issues.
A few of them include: There is no way to have offline viewing on the app. There is no live sports. Channels you cannot add yourself are all live channels. No DVR capabilities. The content can be choppy at times. No way to stream from your smart TV. There are many other reasons. But one of the biggest and most common issues are the ones I listed above. But what if you want to sign up for multiple users? And how do you even do that? We got a look at the platform and how it works to find out! Let's take a look.
A quick overview of YouTube TV. YouTube TV is another attempt at a streaming service. It is currently available on the Apple TV, Google Chromecast, Roku, and now Android TV. It's a single platform service that allows you to watch from any internet-connected device including mobile and tablet devices.
How to add multiple users. YouTube TV has a different process for adding multiple users. I tried out this new functionality and here is how you go about it: Step 1. Go to the account page and log into your Google account.
Step 2. Then, select the subscribed tab on the top right and click add an account.
Step 3. If you have a password, make sure to include it into the page.
Step 4. Enter your email address, which you will use for the next step. Make sure to use a Gmail account.
Step 5. Hit the verification tab to check your email address and confirm that you received it.
Once you receive the confirmation email, the account creation process is complete. When you select the second account, it'll automatically ask you to set up an App Password. In my case, I did not need that. You can still cancel the second account. Just click delete under the account name.
How many households can use YouTube TV?
With TV packages from cable and other sources, there is often a question of how many TV households are served by a provider, and how many people there are in each one.
Of course, it varies from market to market depending on subscriber base, market size and competition, but here is a rough estimate for some key markets around the country, which may help with budgeting and scheduling of paid programming on your service. Keep in mind that these are rough estimates, and the actual number of households available in any given market may be anywhere from 50% lower to 50% higher than the numbers shown below.
For each area shown, we used two sources of data: Samples of actual subscribers taken by OTT providers in late 2023 and 2023. If possible, we prefer newer data to older data (see our full article for why).
The most recent counts from TV market researchers Nielsen and NPD in early 2023. Counts based on the 2023 Q4 and 2023 US Census.
You can also see the same estimates for streaming services using Netflix, Hulu and Sling TV in the charts below, but those are more complicated than TV providers and take a little longer to research. Let us know if you have any questions! Please note that we are not trying to accurately estimate the total number of live TV subscriptions in the US; you can do that yourself with official subscription counts from cable operators, like Comcast, and by counting the number of TV plans in retail bundles, if they include digital plans separately, or by counting the number of digital-only subscribers. Those methods aren't perfect, and the exact totals are hard to measure without counting actual TV subscriber accounts. We are just using this data as a handy way to approximate the number of households a company offers digital TV to.
Top Markets: New York City: ~1.7 million people Los Angeles: ~2 million people. San Francisco Bay Area: ~3 million people. Chicago: ~3.5 million people Houston/Dallas/Austin: ~3 million people. Phoenix/Gilbert/Chandler/Tempe: ~1.8 million people The list goes on: Miami: ~2.5 million people Cleveland: ~3.5 million people Milwaukee: ~3.7 million people Seattle/Tacoma: ~3.
What does 3 streams and 6 accounts mean for YouTube TV?
3 Streams = Up to 3 simultaneous streams.
6 Accounts = Up to 6 simultaneous streams. Each account will have access to the same channel lineup, but can watch them on up to 3 different devices. If you have 1 account with 3 streams and 1 account with 6 streams, you'll have access to a total of up to 18 simultaneous streams. You'll also be able to switch between the streams in real time without losing any channels.
This is not a limitation we are enforcing or requiring at this time. This is a number we have confirmed with YouTube TV. The number of streams is based on the number of devices you have connected to your account.
Here's what the account setup looks like. How do I add a second stream? You can add another stream by going to your YouTube TV account and selecting Settings from the top navigation menu. Here, you'll be able to additional streams.
How does the account sharing work? Sharing an account means allowing other people to watch your channel lineup on up to 3 streams at the same time. For example, you can share your account with a group of friends and each person in the group will be able to access up to 3 streams. Sharing is simple and easy to do, you'll see a dialog that pops up when you share your account and then you can enter the password of any of your accounts in the Share with field.
How many concurrent streams do I get with an account sharing? If you share an account, you get access to a total of up to three streams. If you only share a single stream, you'll have access to up to 6 simultaneous streams.
What happens if I share my account? The first time you share an account, you'll receive a notification email with a link to a webpage where you can change the password of your shared account. If you don't want to share your account, you can simply login to your account and add a secondary password to the account. I'm having a problem adding a second stream? It's important to note that YouTube TV's system of adding streams is based on devices, not accounts.
