Is Hulu owned by ABC?
With Hulu's latest funding announcement () there were several comments asking about whether Hulu was owned by ABC. While this is a topic that doesn't have a simple answer, I would like to clear up some things: Yes, it can be said that if you believe ABC is the parent company then Hulu probably is owned by that same group of companies. If you think it's the other way around (and many on this thread are asking, "isn't ABC a subsidiary of Disney"?), then that makes no difference since under either scenario, it's not at all clear where the money really came from to fund Hulu.
If Disney bought or merged with ABC, then ABC would be considered a subsidiary of Disney under an SEC filing () and it could very well be true. However, given how large these two companies are, and the fact that they both own plenty of stuff in addition to cable networks, it's a pretty likely scenario that they will continue to operate separately.
Either way, it seems clear that all Hulu is owned by someone. There has never been any question about that in the past.
But it isn't just that -- in my opinion. In fact I don't know who is in control of Hulu now. What I know: Hulu is being sold as a whole system but it may still include many parts like ABC, NBC Universal, Warner Brothers (Warner Digital Distribution). There are no clear "parent companies". And when there's a "parent company", there's no way to know for certain who they are, it could be ABC or it could be Disney or possibly even another company. So it's not an easy thing to figure out, If you're looking for definitive information (like the SEC documents mentioned above) then you can't find it and that leaves everyone wondering. It's not a question of ownership though, there's always been a company that controls Hulu's finances. It's the same with all services on the web. There is one company that controls them all and no law says anything different. That is not the situation with the big three broadcast networks' shows because in this case it's the networks themselves that are being distributed.
Can I get ABC with Hulu?
I recently got my hands on a Roku and was having a ton of trouble with channel searching. For example, there's never been an easy way to search for Modern Family by episode number. Or to find out when the new episode will be aired (eg, last night's new episode was Monday, but what was that episode's episode number in week order? Does anyone know this?), or how many episodes are left until its season end (eg, are there 13 episodes left in this season or 30?
This is why I'm looking to add a Roku/Chromecast into my setup, because I want to be able to easily stream Hulu's shows to my Roku and display them in full-screen for my Roku's HDTV. Is there an easy way to use an Amazon Firestick as well? If you're watching Hulu through Netflix, you need to pay for an additional Netflix plan. But with over 50,000 free episodes you can watch on Netflix, if you'd rather save cash and download Netflix for your Roku, you can't do that unless you have a premium Netflix plan.
Yes, the Roku and Chromecast will definitely work - you can connect them all in one room, and stream to them all (Roku-wise, it's just one click), and they'll take care of all the channel searching etc. If you just want to see what's on right now though (say you missed it while it was airing), then yes, you can. On their website, they call this feature "In Season" which works for all channels.
They've had it as a setting before, on the apps, but this makes it so easy. Just browse to find your show title, and click the In Season button.
No. Netflix works in-stream and doesn't count against the limit (they make all content accessible via the internet). Your best option is to pick Hulu or Amazon Prime for their service, which they both have the ability to do in-Stream viewing without the added extra cost of subscribing to Netflix.
What streaming service is ABC on?
I guess you all know that there are a couple of services out there and one is Disney's Netflix.
Disney has this service named Disney+ I'm pretty sure that the rest of you know that this is basically a Netflix of Disney. There's no original content on it yet but there are movies and shows. Well, Disney is adding a ton of new movies and shows that have never been seen before. This one should be interesting.99 per month, and is the perfect choice for family watching.
Star Wars. A whole new galaxy is opening up on December 15th when the next Star Wars film hits Disney+. In the trailer, fans will see a crew of bounty hunters searching for a missing person. The only problem is that everyone seems to want this job, even though the person may be dead.
The Mandalorian looks like it will be an awesome series. Fans of the franchise will be ecstatic when they see it, as it is a Star Wars show made specifically for Disney+ Diary of a Wimpy Kid. The Diary of a Wimpy Kid franchise is still going strong and this sequel to the first one is now available on Disney+. The movie is basically the same story as the book with a few twists and turns along the way. The plot sees Greg (played by Steve Zahn) and Rowley (played by Jeff Grace) trying to get a job in order to get their parents to pay off their mortgage. This new film picks up immediately after the events of the live-action film which was released last year. However, if you want to watch the character come to life again, this is the movie for you.
