Does Hotspot Shield slow down internet?

I don't know if it's just my computer but when I use Hotspot Shield it sometimes slows down my internet connection.

My question is, if Hotspot shield was causing this to happen? I've tried doing other applications like Netflix and Hulu and it never does that. It only happens with hotspot shield.

My internet service provider says it's not the problem. If you ask them they will tell you that it's you and not them that is causing the issue. I wish I could get this solved so I wouldn't be having this problem.

There are other ways to try fixing this problem and not with a free service from a questionable company. I personally use speedtest to check my internet speed every day. The speedtest page actually tells me how much time it takes for my computer to reach different locations around the world. By using speedtest, it can tell me if it's my computer, my internet connection or someone else. I even use it on a different computer at a completely different location to see if there is any difference in speeds. It would then tell me which of the 3 it is, but it's the easiest method.

To sum it up, it's not your ISP, it's not you, it's probably speedtest. I hope this helps you.

Thank you for taking the time to reply. The reason I asked was because some articles online said that it's not the ISP and I'm wondering if that's the problem. I just find it hard to believe. I've also tried speedtest.net and it's always telling me that my connection is fast. As far as I'm aware, this is the best way to do it. Just today I've checked and I had the lowest internet speed of the day. When I checked yesterday, my connection was at 11 Mbps. Today, I had 8 Mbit/s. Which is just over 1/3 of what I had yesterday. So I think it's safe to say that my connection is indeed getting slower by using Hotspot Shield. I have this feeling in my gut. I can't ignore it. You did help though. Thanks!

You're definitely not alone with this problem. As far as I know, it's not the ISP but speedtest.net usually shows that your connection is slow. Since you're able to browse faster than that, I think that's speedtest.

You may need to log out of the service, and then log in again.

If you've started a Hotspot Shield session and are logged into it, you might have to restart your computer. If you sign out of the service, then sign back in, you should be able to restart your computer and keep your settings.
