Which VPN unblocks BBC iPlayer?

It seems that all UK VPNs have been banned from accessing the iPlayer.

Does anyone know if any work arounds are available? I have tried using a US based VPN but it doesn't work. This has hit me hard as I use iPlayer to catch up on TV shows that I missed during the week. As far as I know it is a black list, and the BBC said they don't want to do it. This is correct and as you say is the only way they can guarantee that there is no unauthorised access to the service. They might add an IP address to the black list but as the list is publically available that would make it easy for anyone to get round the restrictions. That's why I think that they will change the method of implementation to something that the BBC can't see, such as the use of cookies. I just read that BBC iPlayer can be accessed by changing the default proxy settings. This is how I used to get round the restrictions on a US based VPN. I just changed the proxy settings for the BBC website to my US based VPN and then used a different browser to access the iPlayer.

Is the BBC blocking VPNs?

There's been a lot of talk over the past few days about blocking VPNs from being used by people who illegally access BBC iPlayer content (BBC, if you're interested in details, have a "fines and blocked" page listing the reasons). While it's definitely irritating that the BBC is apparently cracking down on the whole VPN issue, this can be annoying one hand - but on the other I'm glad they are banning illegal content. This should serve as a warning to VPN providers though - the BBC may be blocking illegal stuff, but they're certainly not the only entity doing it. And I think they are going way too far with this one.

For example, while I do believe the BBC doesn't have a responsibility to provide services for people using illegal software and equipment, you would think that someone could at least try for legal content that is freely available online. I had no problems getting BBC iPlayer content using CyberGhost at all, it was my main choice and I'd recommend it to anyone still having problems. With ExpressVPN it was so easy to get iPlayer access I never did bother to sign up for a trial just to find out I didn't have enough credit to subscribe.

And I would hope they allow access to iPlayer when using something like TONMO, which is specifically designed to work around these problems - after all, if they could get content legitimately using normal means why do they need to block VPNs? So they can keep using their old way - because that works so well. I can't imagine the hassle they'll be going through for testing this but it sounds like the BBC might finally start to understand that many people are using VPNs to get around their own content restrictions. And it would seem even more stupid if they then went out of their way to block them completely, considering I imagine most of the people accessing content through a VPN are not criminals but have simply been annoyed by all the silly excuses (credits! etc.) that they have to sign up for just to be able to watch iPlayer.
