Why is Express VPN not connecting Windows 11?

We are having an issue with the new Windows 11 operating system.

We have an express VPN client that we have been using for the past 4 years, since Windows 7. Now, we are in the process of upgrading to Windows 11 and it just wont connect to our express VPN. We are not sure what is going on. We go to the windows settings where it says connected to expressvpn when it should be say connected to us. Any idea why this is happening?

I am wondering if ExpressVPN software for Windows 11 is compatible with the latest version of Windows OS? Or do you recommend the older version from Windows 10? I am trying to decide if I should upgrade to the latest version of Windows. It seems that the software is incompatible with the new OS. I am using the older version and I cannot connect to the ExpressVPN service.

I am using express vpn on Windows 8.1 and after upgrading to windows 10, the connection is not working. I also tried connecting to my IP and I get the error "Cannot connect to local proxy server" When using the IP address, I get an invalid credentials error.

I recently upgraded from Windows 10 to Windows 10 Pro (and removed pro-privacy tools) and my express VPN works fine. I would like to get a clean install of win 10 so I can update to pro-privacy tools later.

My current win 10 looks like the image below. It will connect and stay connected at all times and my data is transferred perfectly.

If you are using VPN connections, it is recommended to use them only for certain activities. They may work perfectly fine in school or for a business, but not everyone is as savvy as you are to always keep a stable connection in a home environment.

For most people, they will want to use VPN connections for a specific set of activities such as streaming videos or other online activities. However, the use of these services in a personal environment is not recommended and should be only used for short bursts of time.

What happened to TunnelBear?

We've been hearing so much about TunnelBear.

They just announced a new service with the tagline "All your VPN needs in one" that seems to be going after our market - not really. It seems they are positioning themselves as the Google of VPNs, which is a nice way to put it (although I wish they would use something other than the "all you need VPN for is safe search" slogan). But while I like the idea of one place for my VPN info and recommendations, we can do better.

I wanted to tell you why we don't like TunnelBear as we think you deserve to know what's behind your data. We don't know if what we say is because they are mischaracterizing their data collection, but we know from talking to people who have used their service that it is certainly not good. Here's why.

Who is TunnelBear? If you go to tunnelbear.com, you'll see a message that states this: TunnelBear was built on the open source and free, no ads, no spam software known as OINET (Open Internet Engine), and on the principles that any data gathered should only be shared with TunnelBear. That makes the VPN free in theory but they're still in business. But it does raise a problem that the TunnelBear marketing materials never mention, but is important for you to know. There's a group of people running open source projects who have an explicit policy that they will not work with private companies or governments, even ones that say they want to be transparent, due to the privacy implications of working with a known third party. This is not about TunnelBear specifically, it's about a general rule about working with private entities.

TunnelBear says they are "for human rights and privacy groups": The TunnelBear founder has said his company is for human rights and privacy groups. That's different from the more common use of pro-privacy.

There's a long history of these sorts of people going directly to the public to let them know what they are concerned about, and many have a negative take on private contractors working with the U.S. I don't think TunnelBear is part of that group; I think they're just making it up. The real "human rights and privacy groups" in the US are those that oppose the US government.

Why is my VPN client not connecting Windows 11?

As you are well aware, connecting to a private network from a public connection is all but impossible.

There are dozens of ways we can get around this issue, which is why I created a VPN Client for my Windows OS 11 machine. If you wish to know how it works (I'm not a writer so I won't bore you with the details, they can be read in more detail in my post on VPNs for beginners), read on.

You can not use a mobile phone on Windows 10 Remote Access. It is not available for older phones and mobile devices. It is only available for new Windows 10 Mobile devices that can be activated on any Windows PC that meets the minimum system requirements (see Microsoft's support site).

Why does it not work on the phone? It is not possible because: the phone could not be activated because it is not compatible or it did not match the device requirements. That a mobile device can not be activated if it was manufactured with Windows Phone 8.1 devices (which are no longer supported) if the phone was manufactured before February 2026 (when the mobile device features were introduced), it may have been activated, but it has reached its end of life and it cannot be run on windows 10 by Microsoft. Is there any solution? No, sorry. You are forced to activate a new mobile device that can run Windows 10 Remote Desktop Services and can be used on your Windows PC. Only then will you be able to remotely connect to your phone.
