Why is my childs location not working on Family Link?
Our family has just recently started using Family Link with Amazon Fire and it's been great.
Before that it was hard to organize for different devices. Now I can say I have everything on my device that is connected through Family Link, except our location for our child. Do we need to sign up with another company so we can use another app? If so is it worth the effort? Or if it's something that we can deal with then what is going wrong?
We have a small handful of Family Link accounts for the kids and the adults in our house - not sure if this affects anything but I figured I would mention it anyway. Maybe this could be fixed when we try to send them directions or a new toy from Amazon without being able to locate the address? The map shows up but once you select an item and try to send it they say it won't go anywhere? We have the same problem. I used a family share on another phone last year, then I updated the account and that seemed to work fine. Then I had to do a factory reset on my phone because I was getting too many prompts and the apps were running out of space and I couldn't find that app at all (I don't use Amazon anymore). I was able to set up another account with my phone but now I'm having problems transferring all my files over. When I set up the second account, I thought I was doing all of the steps to add all of the information for the second account but my contacts and music are coming across with info from the first account.
I'm frustrated that I can't get my kids back to the home screen because there's nothing there other than their profile information and I've tried adding family members with no luck. I tried reinstalling everything but I keep getting the prompt to install an update.
It appears that this was introduced in one of the latest updates, I've also tried deleting the whole thing and re-installing but it seems to just give me the prompt again when the next update comes through. I really want to get this right but I've already lost my place with this whole process! When my family has the same accounts, but only one instance of the app (fire) it works great. But when I add more it says I need to close the existing fire app and restart. What do you do? Is there a workaround?
Why is my daughters location not showing?
I know a lot of people who have found this annoying and sometimes there's even been an argument, so I wanted to ask if anyone else could explain the problem for me.
I have tried different software and different computers and I have checked that my daughters location is switched on. When I move a car, she is in the car park near her school with her friends when I get back she is no longer there! Why does this happen and how can I fix it?

I'm going to offer two possible solutions: The location service is malfunctioning, which is a distinct possibility. We have had GPS units break on our cars in the past, and while they still work, they behave strangely (especially if you try to use them while stopped).
In that case, your best bet is to contact the manufacturer of the device and have them fix it. However, if you've never had a problem before, it could be that it is broken by design, or because it is being used incorrectly.
If you have it on all the time, it's a simple case of accidentally forgetting to switch the location service off. Just go into Settings > Location and switch off the "Location" and "Bluetooth" switches.
Alternatively, if your phone has been rooted, you could try using the Location Manager app. It doesn't need to be set on all the time and the only effect on your daughters location would be to disable the service.
Hi, I've run into this problem before and it was simple. In my case, I had turned on my Android phone and forgotten to turn it off. When I went to my settings, I couldn't find my own location but instead I saw the location of my closest friend. If I could have found that before and disabled the GPS, this wouldn't have happened.
If you're having a similar problem, make sure you've got a good look at your Android settings. Hey, thanks for the reply. I do know about that issue of turning the services on all the time and having it switch off. That is why I said the phone has been rooted. You don't know what other apps I have on there from the web page when it happens!
How do I find my family location?
The Family Locator section of the Family Tree Help web site contains a wealth of information about how to research your family history.
You can search by census, immigration records, vital records, and obituaries. Here is a quick review of each of these data types.
Searching by Census. Census records contain information about the population of a given area at a particular time. Census records are created in conjunction with your county clerk. Some counties have a census office that manages the process.
You can search a census for a specific township or county. Searchable categories in census records include: The name of your ancestor, if it is known. Name and age of the parents. Number of children and place of residence. Place of birth. Income and occupation of the head of household. The head of household's sex and race. The household's size and relationship to the head of household. Occupation of the household members and marital status of the heads. Religion of the household members. If you know the name of your ancestor, type it into the search box. (Type the complete name exactly as it appears on the document.) Then click Search. If you don't know the name of the ancestor, you may use the Place of Birth or Race search options.
Search by Immigrant Record. An immigrant record is an official entry of an immigrant to a U. Port of entry. The immigrant record most often contains information about name and age of the immigrant; place of origin and citizenship; destination and country of arrival; reason for entering the United States; and description of voyage. A search for an immigrant record will return a list of records found in the index for that year. You'll need to read the instructions for a particular immigration year to learn the exact language of the immigrant record that you need to be able to read and understand the information. If you don't know what information you need to locate, contact your county clerk and request the appropriate forms.
Search by Vital Record. Vital records are certificates of births, deaths, and marriages. Your county clerk may have copies of these records, or he or she may order them from the state government. As with other vital records, a search for a vital record will provide a list of the records in the index for the year in question.
How do I stop my child from turning off my location?
When my child is younger, I set a timer on the phone to remind me to keep my child in sight. When my child is older, I have a lost phone app and ask the child to sign out of the app to keep the app from sending location information to my phone. Do these methods work? Not if you have a mobile device that uses the GPS feature. If you have a smartphone, you probably use the GPS function to get directions or find the nearest gas station or restaurant. Unfortunately, the GPS service is not intended for privacy. When the GPS feature is turned on, your phone sends a signal to the satellites telling them where you are. If your phone is turned off, the GPS satellites can no longer track your location. The data is still collected, but it cannot be shared with third parties.
What happens when I turn off my GPS service? If your device is turned off, the location information is still collected and stored on your phone. Depending on how long the battery lasts, the GPS service may not be turned back on for several days. Once you turn on the GPS service again, the phone is able to detect your location and share it with third-party apps. The device will not save this information if you turn off the GPS service again.
Does this mean that my phone isn't collecting location data when I'm in a dark room? Even if you are in a dark room, the device still collects data from the GPS satellites. However, it may not be shared with apps unless you turn on the GPS service.
Can I be sure my child won't turn off my location? It's hard to control what a child does when he or she has access to a mobile device. But you can limit access to the GPS service and turn on the phone only when you are aware of your child's whereabouts.
How can I protect my personal information? You can help protect your personal information by installing privacy software on your child's phone and tablet. This software will not allow apps to collect location data when the GPS service is turned off. You can also download location apps that will allow you to track your child's location even when the GPS service is turned off.
