How many reports does it take to ban an Instagram account?
The answer might be more than you think.
Instagram announced yesterday that the number of likes, comments and shares are contributing to an algorithm which will ban users with bad behavior from the platform. While the new report-like feature was meant to help people identify their worst offenders, it's raising a lot of questions about how exactly it works. Especially since some reports may simply not be worth the trouble.
The way the new system works is pretty straightforward. The reports will appear in your profile if the following is true: You've received too many reports; Reports have been submitted from people who have reported you in the last 6 months; Reports have been submitted from users who have reported you in the last 30 days. Instagram has not been clear on how they plan to handle these kinds of cases. It might seem like a clear-cut case for someone who has violated the rules. But that would not necessarily mean that they will be booted from Instagram right away. And that might not even be the end of the story. There is no way to undo a report, which means that it might simply stick without really having an effect.
This issue was brought up by several YouTubers who used the platform to share their videos. They were surprised to learn that they were already banned in part because of the way the new reports worked. They had no idea that they were creating the reports, even though they did not see the reports either. For example, here is a video from Casey Neistat about the changes, which took place right before Christmas.

Neistat then went on to ask: Is there a way to see what reports have been submitted? We know when the change was made but were completely blindsided by it and I don't believe anyone else was. In that sense, we can't really complain.
What do you think about this process? Has the new feature really changed anything? Let us know in the comments below. Update: If you feel that the old school way of reporting someone did still work, let us know.
How do I report a Instagram account and delete it?
How do I report an Instagram account and delete it?
I want to report someone's Instagram account for the following reasons: He/she has no pictures. He/she is posting videos with a voiceover and no music. He/she is posting videos with no music and the background is white. He/she is posting a picture of herself and she is promoting another product, in other words, he/she is selling a product through her picture. The problem is I cannot find the button to report his account. Is there any other way to report him? I think I might be too late to report him because I want to report him for days. If this is not the correct place to post this, please let me know and I will delete this. I want to report him/her for these reasons and others. Is there a way to report an Instagram account? Do I need to report him/her through the Facebook messenger? ? Hi all. He/she is posting a picture of himself and she is promoting another product, in other words, he/she is selling a product through her picture
Can you ban an Instagram account?
The answer, in a word: no.
Instagram wants to be able to ban users who do bad things, but the company can't simply ban people from their platform without going through a lengthy court battle and getting permission from Congress. If a user can convince a judge they've done something wrong, and an ISP like AT&T agrees to block their content, then an account could be shut down.
Instagram is an interesting company. Part of it feels like a scrappy upstart that could turn into something big, but they're still very much in the early days. That means many products still have a lot of room to grow, and the Instagram app is no different. It's got a long way to go in order to achieve true Instagram greatness.
But we're getting closer. Instagram's new Stories function is a great step toward the social network reaching that peak. We've already seen it work better than any previous iteration of the platform, which is something it'll need to continue.
Story functions are great, and we'd like to see more Instagram users use them more often. But Stories aren't a panacea. They're not going to instantly change the way you communicate with your friends.
When it comes to communicating with others, social media platforms can be helpful. But they aren't the only way to get in touch with your friends. There's a simple way to do it if you want to stay in touch with your best friends and the friends you want to keep in touch with: You call them. You text them. You say hi whenever you see each other. You talk on the phone if it's the right thing to do.
Instagram's Stories are still good, but that doesn't mean it can't do better. The real power will come when we start seeing the benefits of video. Let's hope we'll see it in the near future.
