What is the automation add on for chrome?
I heard it was pretty cool
Yes, it's cool.
But not really for "me", I like to keep things as simple as possible. But I hear it is really good for people who want to get into the game. I've been trying to learn it, but I just can't get past the first tutorial step.
If you want to learn how to automate stuff on the web, I'd suggest you start with google automation and some tutorials. Google automation is a great starting point. It will teach you to use their developer tools, such as the 'Page' and 'Fetch' tools. I haven't used it a whole lot yet, but it's nice for simple stuff. I like the approach that the developer takes (the 'get it done quick' thing). But it does take a bit of effort to setup.
After you get used to Google's approach, I would suggest you start automating stuff on your own. You'll learn a lot. There are a bunch of cool websites you can use. My favourite is seleniumhq.org. They have lots of tutorials and resources for you to learn from. This is where I learned all my basics. When you know all the basic stuff, you can use it for more complex stuff.
In my opinion, you don't need to dive into anything too complicated. If you want to do something complex, you'll need to use tools such as Selenium. It's not that hard. Just google a bit for some Selenium tutorials and you'll be up and running.
So, in my opinion, just do some simple stuff with Google's Page and Fetch tool, then try some automation on your own. You can start with very simple things, just to get you going.
If you get stuck, just ask. There are so many websites out there for you to learn from.
