We have been playing with Stremio and we don't recommend it to you unless you're OK with malware.

Stremio requires root access, so if you're not comfortable with that, then this one is not for you.

The first thing we noticed is that the app shows the root account when you press "My apps" and there's no security at all. So if you're not very careful with your root access, then you could accidentally install a program that'll take control of your entire phone.

Even though it runs as root, it still doesn't give you a lot of privacy. They have all of your information in the cloud and even the data you store on your phone is available to anyone, if they get in.

That's pretty scary for users, but fortunately, Android users can easily turn off all this stuff. How to turn off Stremio notifications. First, go to the Settings. There are some sections in there like the Security and Privacy.

Scroll down and click on the About section. Scroll down and select it and press OK.

Find and disable everything related to Stremio. If you need to, disable location as well because Stremio keeps track of everywhere you go. Disable everything.

You can find all the options under Storage & USB settings. As soon as you turn these features off, you won't get any updates from Stremio either. This isn't a bad thing, though because your safety is guaranteed.

Is Stremio safe? Stremio runs as root, but it's a very limited and safe root. It has to take over system processes like the Bluetooth system, SystemUI, or even the network system. You won't get locked out of your phone, but it's really hard to guarantee safety. Even if Stremio tries to hide from you, you can always go and download other APKs from the Google Play store that you want to get. These APKs will tell you exactly what they're doing, what they've put in and what they're doing to your phone.

If you have Android 8.0 or higher, then you can disable access to other apps with the option under "Application Permissions" and "System permissions". But even if you disable the other app, you can still keep track of what happens with Stremio.

Is there a way to download from Stremio?

In the Stremio Android app on my Android phone there is a way to download an .

In the web interface where it says "download now" and I click "Add to playlist", then it will take about 3-5 minutes and will show a progress bar and then it finishes downloading. Not really. It's not possible to "download now" from a mobile because you have no "downloading" progressbar on your PC. It's impossible to use from a smartphone as well, for obvious reasons. Please try and report back any progress with StremiOnes in the forum. Cheers.

This is currently only working on desktop web browsers, on Android devices you must use "Download to device" feature (see the menu next to download) which is currently in beta but it can be activated and configured in settings of Stremio application or from web client - if user have access to mobile browser settings. There is also another problem in the Android app when you download a few songs it keeps adding these songs to the list but they never start playing.

I think we just need to sort all this out so we could have a fully working app. No worries - it may take some more weeks or months until our devs (and also us) get this fixed but at least now this is fixed, we'll try to do our best and work on the mobile web client as soon as possible! :). Stremio for android doesn't have any download buttons, only the ones available from the main Stremio webapp.
