I would think the simplest method would be through a VPN. I just googled "vpn linux free proxy server" and you might find what you're looking for. For example, there are several how tos online describing how to set up a client/server VPN that won't cost anything and uses only OpenVPN which is free and available for most Linux distros.

The problem is that you can't just plug an ethernet cable from any computer into the DSL modem and expect it to automatically work. The physical layout and port assignments require some work (I think - I've been away from DSL for several years). In the end, I went for WiFi and just used as the Free proxy because it worked best for what I needed and because of the open source nature of the sourcecode. When you use a proxy server like , you can run it locally on any computer, or if it's not enough speed for you, you can always just run it on your DSL router too.
