While the tax has no bearing on the products you buy here in Korea, it is necessary to consider when you want to import products or what type of product you want to bring in for use in Korea. Below is a detailed explanation of the Global Import Bill. What is the Global Import Bill? The Global Import Bill was announced by Google in May 2024 and will go into effect on July 1st. The intent of the Global Import Bill is to regulate the supply of electronic components and materials used for manufacturing products. With the enactment of this legislation, companies will be able to import electronic components and raw materials used for manufacturing goods freely under a simplified inspection system. The main objective of this bill is to increase the efficiency of trade using electronic components, and thus create an environment where more Korean components are being used. Companies that use imported components must fill out the form I/C (Form of Information & Consent for Import) in the Electronic Commerce Development Center (ETDC). This document will contain all information pertaining to an imported product and allow inspection of its validity prior to shipment. An official document that has been issued from an accredited agency will not be necessary in the case of goods imported under Article 30.2, since this bill has been enacted to provide the basic procedure for electronic component imports.
If a company wishes to import electronic components, a customs officer at an importing port must determine that there is a need to inspect goods by asking several questions regarding the contents of the I/C or an official document.
