What cities are hiring for gaming qa jobs?

We asked you to tell us which cities have the best (and worst) odds of finding a job in the gaming industry, and received a few surprises. Let's get into the rankings.

Note: The methodology for these rankings is different from that of our annual Best Places to Work study, as we focused on the availability of jobs rather than overall satisfaction. We have a number of caveats that may be worth mentioning, but our first focus is on finding game jobs.

Methodology. Game companies are the bread and butter of the game industry, and they're responsible for the creation, design, and marketing of games. There are two major types of game companies: software and hardware. The jobs at software companies primarily involve coding and development, while hardware companies employ people who build the actual products that end up on store shelves. As the market for consoles continues to shrink, there is a greater need for companies to focus their efforts on the next generation of consoles.

For this year's QA rankings, we looked at hiring trends in each city. What Does "Hiring Trend" Mean? To qualify for this list, a city had to have at least 100 new jobs in the past 12 months. There are no guarantees that these new hires will stay at the company long term, but there's an increased likelihood that they'll stick around for more than a few months or even years.

We then used a methodology that allowed us to compare cities with similar numbers of new hires. We compared new hires between cities only if the difference was less than 25 percent. This cut out cities like Las Vegas, New York, and San Francisco, as well as a few other large cities that aren't in the game industry at all.

So what does this mean? Cities with the same number of new hires are roughly equal. To determine which cities are the best to work in, we then looked at the companies that hired the most new hires. If you're interested in working in the gaming industry, the best places to start are the ones that have the highest percentages of companies that hire new hires.

The results were surprising. New Orleans, Miami, and New York came in at No. 1, No. 2, and No. 3, respectively. We'd like to think that we predicted that New York would make the top spot, but maybe were wrong.

A few months back we talked about what states have the most game tester jobs and found that Oregon ranked #3. And now we take a look at what states have the most QA jobs and find that in 2023 Alaska (surprise!), Nevada, Colorado, New York, and North Carolina have the most. It makes sense that California should be #1 but there really aren't enough jobs for the entire state.

How do we know this? Well, we started by asking those familiar with the gaming industry where they think jobs are. The response from them was overwhelming. While some gave their responses in absolute terms, others felt there were only so many positions to go around (or however the saying goes). All of the names we've included had worked in gaming and they had a good idea of what it takes to do the job and the difficulty levels of said jobs. I'm going to paraphrase the list: we're going to say Alaska has the most because it's the only one that's completely consistent with its number of people and percentage of industry vs the national average, Nevada has a high percentage of QA types because it's pretty unique and Colorado because of its sheer size. But, we'll see, I like how they rank.

This is going to sound kinda funny but what states do not have a ton of gaming jobs despite being filled with young and old! How would you feel about working in one that had the largest populations of every other category, like. Arizona? If you're on the West Coast or just got a degree in one of the "bad" states mentioned above you'll never work again in gaming! How's that? Haha! So, let's see how this is shaping up! Video games are a very complex medium. A video game is so advanced that you need someone like the QA tester to make sure that it runs smoothly and that there are no bugs. But even with the best QA testers, there are still some bugs in the games they test.

We want to know what are the different types of QA testers and what do they do for the game companies? It's great if you are a newbie tester who never heard of the QA tester job before. So this is what you should know about QA testers: QA Testers at Game Company. In general, QA testers are part of the game development team at the studio but they are not usually working on the actual coding, they are usually on the side, inspecting and testing the game from its initial stage all the way to the end. They look for any flaws in the game before it is even finished and try to catch these errors before the game is released.

How is QA Testing Worked? The QA testers have a lot of responsibilities. They start by inspecting the code for any errors, they look for any bugs in the game before it gets released and after it's out they check to make sure that the game works fine on each computer. They ensure that the game is bug free and that every time the user makes a request for the game, the request will be granted.

Most of the QA testers make sure that the game can be played using the PC version. Then they run the game on many different platforms to see how the game works when users are not on their native operating systems. It could be a Windows based PC or even on an Xbox or PlayStation. It's very important to them that the game will work properly even if the user is on a completely different operating system.

QA Testing in Gaming Industry. Some video game companies require their employees to go through the QA process, and they might need to be certified as QA Testers. At some point you can only get the certification from a well-known board and it depends on where your business is located in the world.

If you want to become a QA tester, you'll need to pass your qualification test first.

How much does Epic Games pay QA testers?

It's been quite a year since The Game Awards 2023 happened, in which the award for Best Game of the Year was awarded to Fortnite.

At the time Epic Games, the studio that created Fortnite was said to be making a move into PC games with the development of a large AAA PC game in development titled Battlegrounds.

Epic Games is currently the number one game developer behind the PC gaming industry, which means they obviously make tons of money and have massive investments going on for the company. As this industry is highly competitive, the studios need to make sure everything is working exactly as it should when the time for release comes. Epic Games has around 1,000 employees at their Epic Games Vancouver office, most of which are software developers who create new products or improve the existing ones and keep track of the new developments.

Epic Games' success is not always evident in their game titles, but in the QA (Quality Assurance) department. Here you can find a different team that is dedicated in performing reviews on the new titles in order to determine its quality.

When looking for a job in the QA department, there's one thing you can say for sure: it's probably the job that never sleeps. While the majority of the teams you'll see are located in cities such as Seattle, New York and Sydney, there is also a team from Epic Games' Vancouver office based here, who take care of testing the titles made by the larger company. However, this does not include commissions which could be more. It's also worth mentioning that this is a self-reported statistic, which means that in reality the figure can be higher.

So let's look at what this job is all about and why it pays so well. What is QA? Quality assurance is all about checking that products meet the expectations of users. If there are any errors or flaws in the game, it will stop making users happy which means people won't buy the title. Here is an example of a QA error:

How much do game play testers make?

I am currently doing a course in an undergraduate program and it's going pretty well.

But I want to make the jump and become a game play tester after I get my degree. But I am afraid to go out there and start earning because a) I don't know how much I can expect to get, and b) I don't want to spend money that is earmarked for the program and not for something I could spend it on if I actually had the desire to do so.

I am planning to graduate with a 3.93 GPA in about 4 years and have some really good jobs coming along. Right now, I am trying to juggle it all by attending grad school while job hunting. So in reality, I am just putting a lot of hours in without having any certainty of where they will take me or how much I will earn as a result. There are plenty of jobs but very little pay for what I am trying to do. I want to change thisbut I don't know how.

Please help? If there is a way to make an actual living as a QA tester, I would love to hear about it. I am not sure there are a lot of options on this front, and I don't even know what to call a company that hires you, since I am sure most places simply have the position title QA Lead/CTO/Dev/etc.

I also really don't care too much what it is called in the grand scheme of things. A job that makes an actual living off gaming? I would have no complaints if I didn't.

We have modified it slightly and reposted it here: QA/Testing/Etc (we work at the small end of the scale at work) is more a function of where you are in the test cycle than the job title you hold. I'm not certain what you mean by QA Lead/CTO/Dev, etc. It's all really about the job description.
