How do I use Proton VPN?
If you're looking to use a VPN server to help protect your browsing from prying eyes, ProtonVPN is a useful choice.
It has a simple interface, no registration or logins are required to use it, and it comes with multiple servers, so you can pick one close to where you live.
The free version has 5 free IP addresses, which you can use to surf anonymously. Once you buy a plan, the number of free IPs you get increases to 20, so you won't have to wait around for ages before you can start using the service. The number of free IPs will also increase with the number of paid IPs you have used.
What is the free plan for? The free version is for people who don't want to pay for ProtonVPN. If you're only going to be using it occasionally, there's no need to pay. The free version of ProtonVPN is very similar to the paid plan, and most people who use the free plan aren't going to notice much of a difference. However, there are some small differences, and you should know about them before using ProtonVPN.
Here is an overview of the key differences between the free and paid plans of ProtonVPN. Basic differences. You can connect up to 3 devices to your ProtonVPN account. That means you can use ProtonVPN on up to 3 devices simultaneously, and you can share the accounts of these devices. This free version limits your usage to 1 device at any given time.
You can browse anonymously on the free version of ProtonVPN, which is a major benefit to people who just need to use a VPN occasionally. You have more restrictions on the free version of ProtonVPN: you can't browse anonymously in over 200 countries, and you can't access websites that need to know your real location, such as your bank and email providers.
Security is important for ProtonVPN, which is why they take data security seriously. When you're using the free plan, you can't use military-grade AES encryption, and the service doesn't keep any logs of your activities. The paid version does have military-grade AES encryption, but you have to pay to unlock it.

Does Proton VPN work on Windows?
Proton VPN has three separate Windows variants: a browser extension, an app, and a plugin.
We don't currently have access to Proton's Windows code, so we can't say for certain how it works.
The browser extension and app are similar in that they both use the Chrome web store as their delivery mechanism. The difference is that the browser extension runs in your browser and needs to be downloaded and installed separately. The app runs inside your browser and doesn't need to be downloaded separately.
The plugin is different from both of the previous two because it downloads and installs a small executable on your computer. This executable is a .NET Framework executable, which means you need to install the .NET Framework on your computer before you can use the plugin. The same .NET Framework is used on all three of Proton's Windows variants, but we don't know which one(s) work with which other variant(s).
You can try any of the Windows variants using the browser extension or app without downloading any additional software, but the plugin will only work if you've installed the . We couldn't test Proton VPN on Windows 7 or 8 because the Proton team didn't release the .NET Framework 4.5.2 or 4.6 for those operating systems.
Windows 10. Proton VPN works with Windows 10. We recommend that you use the official Proton VPN website to download the .NET Framework installer if you don't already have it installed. You can also download the Proton VPN app (it comes preinstalled on Windows 10) to get started.
If you're running into any issues, you can always use the app to download the .NET Framework and install it manually.
If you're using an older version of Windows, you might be unable to download the .NET Framework manually. We're working with Proton VPN to see if we can get you the .NET Framework version of Proton VPN for older versions of Windows.
Proton VPN works on Mac. We haven't tested Proton VPN on Mac, but it should work just fine. Linux. Proton VPN works on Linux. We haven't tested Proton VPN on Linux. Android. Proton VPN works on Android. We haven't tested Proton VPN on Android.
