How do I change my date of birth on Google for minors?
I work for a school that deals a lot with minors, in case you are wondering why I need to know.
In our state, you are required to submit a change of name/date of birth application form and pay a fee when applying to change your name. If it were a minor, this would apply to them as well. When I submit the form that needs to be filled out by their parents, it tells me that I need to attach a copy of a notarized statement of parent's consent or I'll be unable to submit. So how do I get this form without having my minor sign up for google?
In answer to the question, Google accepts any name changes, not just those filed with the government. You still have to apply, but once approved, it won't appear on their records.
There are several other ways of avoiding the requirement, one being a parent who already owns the name, no proof required. Another is, if a young person has an adopted surname which doesn't exist in the name on file, a notarized consent from both parents is no longer needed. They are usually very flexible about this, since there has never been any confusion.
So, why even bother submitting the application in the first place if you are not willing to comply with the new name request to keep a record of the name you use? If there is some reason why you wish to have a public record of what name and date of birth are being used by a minor you need to get their parent's consent for this purpose. In the course of doing a criminal background check (which often includes checking social media profiles) the request to Google would be ignored anyway
