How do I fix VPN connection error?
So I've had a problem for the past year where every few months my laptop goes to sleep while I'm using an active VPN connection and when I wake up it says that the VPN connection timed out and I need to reconfigure it manually.
If I just turn the laptop off and on again, everything's fine. Now the other day I turned it on and it timed out in less than 10 seconds. I waited about 15 minutes and tried to bring up my VPN connection again (didn't give me a chance to configure the IPs). Now it won't connect, nor will it reconnect after I shut the lid.
I can't find any solutions on Google except for deleting it and all of my configs and having it automatically connect to the VPN each time I boot up. I don't have any other services running and this is the only VPN service I use at the moment.
What do I do? Will deleting my VPN completely clean up anything from my past that caused this problem, or will it just recreate the same problem? How long would it take? Is it even worth it to try anything? ? When it starts, make sure to choose "connect" instead of "manual configuration" if you're getting a timed out error. (if this doesn't work, please post back with the exact error you're receiving as it sounds like you have more luck with manual configuration. This works for me 99% of the time. If you get an error about invalid ip address(es), try using your actual router IP instead of the DNS/DNS server given by your provider as they may be cached and the ipv6 address may not resolve to your actual one. You may also want to try adding an exclude directive to your connection profile, which may fix this problem for you.
Try using the Network Manager. Instead of manually configuring, it allows you to select from your networks, click connect and fill in all of the details. It worked for me every single time.
To add: If you still get it connecting after changing that, you probably have some leftover config from previous attempts. You can try deleting /etc/vpnd/all-in-one/.
