Why is my Prime Video rental not working?
Is there a technical problem?
No, it's all good. We might take some time to troubleshoot or roll back any outages or errors that may have occurred on our end and your Prime Video membership is up-to-date and ready to go. Just follow these steps below to troubleshoot any issues:
Visit www.primevideo.com.2. Click your account dropdown menu to select 'Sign In' and then choose 'My Account'.3. If you see an expired certificate error, click 'Learn More'.4. The expired certificate will expire in 24 hours if you don't log into the service again.
Can I buy the service? Yes. Your monthly fee is waived for the first 90 days. Or for a limited time, sign up for the Prime Plus package and receive free 2-Day shipping on hundreds of items. If a subscription is not the right choice for you, contact us at 1-800-972-2566.
What if I already subscribe? You are subscribed already. That was quick and easy. Your experience with Prime Video will begin the day you check in using your email address associated with your subscription account. Once that day has passed, we will send you another email. It's like renewing your driver's license but for watching television shows and movies.
Can I cancel? Yes, however, we require a minimum one-month commitment to cancel a subscription plan. However, we do allow you to leave our service at any time. Simply log into your Amazon.com account, select your subscription from your account dropdown menu, choose 'Change my Subscription' and choose either 'Cancel' or 'Change'. The amount remaining on your credit card will be billed at the monthly rate for whichever option you choose. We also understand if the price of your subscription suddenly skyrockets after you've made the commitment to watch that show. As a result, we offer different pricing for those who decide to cancel after at least a month.
Why are movies unavailable on Amazon Prime?
I have a Prime subscription because it's convenient.
I have Amazon's free trial. I like their prices. I like the selection of books and movies. Why is it that when I try to stream a movie, there is always a message saying "this movie isn't available on Prime"? The movies are in Prime. Am I doing something wrong?

You're not doing anything wrong. It's likely that the movie isn't available because it's not in the catalog. If you want to watch a movie that's not on Amazon's list of free movies, then you'll have to pay to do so. In your case, however, it sounds like you just want to watch a movie on your TV.
For me, it's because I already own the movie, so why pay for a rental when I could just watch it? The problem is that if you are streaming it from Amazon, you are paying them money. They keep most of that money for themselves.
Even if you watch it offline, I'd say this is still probably better for Amazon than selling DVDs or rentals. The DVD or rental company gets a cut of the money. Amazon gets a cut of the money. They just give it to you in the form of free streaming.
My understanding is that Prime can only provide a streaming copy of the movie or tv show if it was purchased or rented in the past, whether that be via Amazon.com or a local rental chain. That's why you get the notice saying it isn't available on Prime.
@Dino, the Amazon Prime videos aren't "streamed" as such, but rather played directly from the server. Amazon has told me that they use their own servers to host their content, and that they don't actually have their own network.
I agree with you on the "cut" that Amazon takes. Amazon will take the difference between the wholesale cost of the product and the retail price, and keep that money to themselves. However, if they choose not to share those dollars with anyone, then it's their choice to make.
@Dino, that's the problem I'm having. The movies/shows are in Prime. There are no ads. The movies are free. They are in my library. But when I click to watch a movie on my TV, it is not available on Prime. Why not?
How do I rent a movie on Amazon Prime now?
Here's how to do it in a pinch or from your sofa.
(Image: Screenshot) I've been using Amazon Prime Video for a while now, watching it in the middle of my favorite show and then quickly skimming over the movie description. But for all of the benefits Prime has to offer, such as easy access to movies and TV shows, I've never quite known how to rent a movie on the service. But after doing some research, I've found out exactly what you need to do in order to make that happen and, more importantly, how to use the service.
First of all, there are different options for how to watch movies on Amazon Prime. If you have an Amazon Fire TV or Fire Stick, it will give you access to Prime Video; if you own an Apple TV or just use Roku, Chromecast or even a Windows PC or Mac, you can download the Prime app to play them on any compatible device.
But, since I prefer to binge watch the shows I subscribe to rather than watch a ton of movies, the most convenient method of watching them is through Amazon's own website. Just click on the movie you want to watch, select the format you want to watch it in (I prefer to choose either the classic Amazon interface or fullscreen) and you'll be taken to the page where you can sign in and pay for it. Since the service has over a thousand movies and TV shows, this shouldn't take long at all, and it'll begin playing almost immediately.
But for some people, there are specific instances when you just don't have time to wait for your movie to download or they want to enjoy their movie during their commute, making the most convenient option not possible for them. Amazon now has Prime Now that allows you to order, pick up and pay in advance for items from certain stores or from restaurants that can also deliver to your house. In this case, it's going to be very convenient if you're in Los Angeles since they have many services that allow you to pick up items. On the other hand, if you're in another city or state, it could be more convenient to just download the movie and be done with it, especially if the movie doesn't have an offline option.
One of the great things about Amazon's streaming service is that, unlike most other services, you can actually rent and purchase movies and TV shows through Amazon.
Why can't i pay for a movie on Amazon Prime?
I can pay for a plane ticket to Rome on Amazon Prime!
Well, it's because you don't go to Rome when you buy plane tickets. You buy them once you arrive at the airport, since it's where you're going.
If you want to go to Rome, you need to book your tickets to Rome. Same thing with a movie. If you want to see a movie in Rome, you can only buy it after you're already there. It's called delivery.
You need to wait until you reach the store. Now that you know, why don't you check your own bank account and see if you have any outstanding charges for items you've already paid for? But how can I trust Amazon, or any other shopping site? Just try. Don't buy.
I know that sounds simple, but trust is earned. That's why I think so many people are so trusting of Amazon. They seem to just assume that everything's going to be OK, even though they don't really know what's going on.
The problem is, they just assume that they're being treated fairly by someone who treats them unfairly all the time. And they do it to themselves. They don't check up on what happens in business. And they don't read the fine print.
So I think that's the key problem. They didn't do enough to check up on things.
That's the way to explain it, and that's the only way I've ever been able to explain it. Is anybody else having a hard time dealing with the holidays? I was planning to start work today, but I'm going to spend tomorrow in bed. The past two weeks have just been a real mess. I hope that I'll feel better next week, or sooner. It's been almost a month since this site went down, so I've got to do some catching up. It will take a while.
And I wish I could find that old web page back. I still think I know how to do some of that stuff now.
But maybe I'd make too much of a mess of it. I really don't know yet.
I don't know how long it will take me to catch up. But I'll get there, somehow.
