How to check proxy settings in registry?
I want to check proxy settings in registry, but I can't find it.
I have the registry on another computer (not Vista) and can't copy it over to Vista machine. Is there any other way to do this?
You can check the setting by creating a new network connection using the control panel, going into Internet Options, then under Connections choose "Select a custom proxy server". That will show you the proxy settings.
If you don't want to use the control panel to do this, you can use the netsh command to see the proxy settings. Netsh winsock show proxy. This will show the settings for the current user. If you want to see the settings for all users on the system, you could run it as Administrator and specify the computer name, or just type in the computer name without the quotes.
How do I disable proxy settings in Windows 7 registry?
I have been having some problems with our internal proxy network setup on the Windows 7 workstations on our company-wide domain.
It was working fine until this past week, and a recent Windows update has apparently taken out whatever settings are controlling that.
When opening Internet Explorer, we lose the ability to configure the proxy settings in the IE menus or settings pages. When trying to connect using a proxy through a browser, we get a "This Connection is Untrusted" message. Using the registry, how do I set the proxy settings for Windows 7? I'm assuming the steps I can follow to restore the current system settings (per MS KB982780) will also apply to this situation. I'm pretty sure these settings are in the "httpProxyInfo" key under the "HKEYLOCALMACHINESOFTWAREMicrosoftWindows NTCurrentVersionWindows" value. If you think there may be another solution to this issue, I'd be all ears. Thanks for any advice/help anyone might offer.
Edit 1: This appears to be a security patch installed on April 11 that is causing this issue: After digging around in the Windows 7 documentation, I was able to find a few places where you can set the default proxy for your machine. I believe the proper registry keys to edit are found here.
As a side note, even though you could be right about all this affecting new installs only, I'm seeing some issues in my own environment where updates have completely blown the registry out, so you should definitely pay attention if you see that happening. To fix a missing registry reference, simply copy the missing "value" into a blank area, then delete the existing value.
Where are the proxy settings in Windows 7?
When you first install Windows 7, it asks you for your proxy settings; where to look for them.
But after being used to finding those settings in Control Panel > Network and Internet > Network & Sharing > Connections > Right Click on Internet Options > That option no longer appears and I've looked through the whole menus/folders listed there to find any options that I could find that would control any proxy settings. Is it hiding or are my options not there? Can someone please point me in the right direction? EDIT: I've even disabled my proxy as well as made sure all my default network settings were cleared and nothing, there's no settings of any kind that I can see in "Network Connections", "Settings" or anywhere else. What's going on with this. I've had to manually configure it once, and now I can't get anything working right again?
Not anymore. You are given 3 options in the Control Panel if you want to make changes: Set up a proxy server for your computer (not for internet connections). Manage proxy and port settings. Configure proxy setting. So basically you should be able to set the Proxy as usual but I don't think this has changed. Perhaps one of the developers have changed it.
You just turn around and go through exactly the same process as what you're used to doing on Windows 7. You click on the little "i" icon on the System Properties icon on the bottom right hand corner of the screen, and you go through the same list of options as you are used to. There is no additional step for you to configure a proxy.
