Where is VPN setting in Android?

Should I turn on VPN on Android?

There have been a lot of VPN apps/services running on our mobile devices.

I don't want to give up anonymity with every single online activity. The main concern is, there are a lot of free and paid services are in existence. Most of these services use open source software and hence I can never be sure if they are listening to what I do and storing any information. So, which VPN should I turn on my Android mobile?

VPN - Virtual Private Network. VPN (Virtual Private Network) is a virtual network that creates a private communication tunnel across a shared or public network using the encryption. VPN protects data traveling between your PC or Android device and the destination by making your internet traffic untraceable. You get the benefits of an encrypted tunnel without giving away your location or revealing your IP address (your address on the internet). By using the VPN service, you can bypass internet traffic filters and other geo-restrictions and keep your internet activities in control.

The main VPN services on Android is OpenVPN, PPTP, SSTP and L2TP/IPsec. To know how they work and which one is best for your requirements check out my article on the differences between each of these protocols.

My personal feeling - The VPN is useful for many things. It's also fun to see who has been doing what by spying on the network traffic and what kind of activities are being performed.

Pros. Keeps my internet activities in control. Keeps me anonymous when I browse webpages etc. Protects me from hackers. Cons. Requires much configuration and maintenance. Lack of some features on desktop VPN clients. Some of the VPN clients are not very user friendly. I have used all the above and will write about them in details. So let's start with PPTP.

PPTP VPN - L2TP/IPSec. PPTP was developed by Microsoft. The advantage of PPTP is that it is very easy to set up on a windows client. This makes it easier to use on desktop as well as mobile phone. One of the best features of PPTP is that it can connect to both a Windows and Mac machine simultaneously, which is not possible with other protocols. I found many issues while testing PPTP VPN client over L2TP/IPSec protocol.

Where is VPN setting in Android?

I just bought a new LG G3 and I want to get the best VPN on my phone.

I read online that the best VPN for Android is IPVanish, but I cannot find where this setting is located in the phone. I have looked through all the settings, but I could not find it.

You're probably in the wrong place for the Android VPN setting. In my experience, it's usually found in the settings/security/location services. This page will lead you to the right place. If you need help after reading that page, feel free to post back.

If you have installed Vpn app on your device, you should be able to find it in the app. To install vpn app on your device, go to google play store, type "vpn app" in the search box. You should be able to find a few apps like that.

I do not know which VPN App you have downloaded. The only one I know of is OpenVPN.

If you want to change the server location, there should be a button called "Server Location". You are correct. OpenVPN is the only VPN app that I have installed. I did not know there were other VPN apps available. I was looking for a free app, and that is why I did not know there was other apps available. I just found that the IPVanish app is free.

That is the app I have. I want to change the server location to Canada, so I can access Netflix from here.

So I go into the VPN tab, and there is no button called "server location." In the IPVanish app, the server location is under the Server Settings tab. But if you want to switch server locations, this is what I suggest. Go to Google Play Store, and search for "OpenVPN". I don't know if you already have this app installed. But if you don't, then you can download the OpenVPN apk file.

I do not have any apps that are called "OpenVPN". I installed the one called IPVanish. The "Server Location" is under the Settings tab, under the "Settings" section.
